International film star, Leonor Varela, first came to the attention of American audiences when she starred in ABC's critically-acclaimed mini-series CLEOPATRA. The mini-series garnered the network's highest movie-of-the-week rating that season. From her portrayal of Cleopatra, Daily Variety called Varela “a true find, inhabiting the role with a smoldering gusto borne of defiant confidence.”
Most recently, Leonor wrapped production on Vulcan Productions WHERE GOD LEFT HIS SHOES opposite John Lequizamo and on Milkshake Films' GOAL! 2 opposite Alessandro Nivola. Varela received critical acclaim on Think Films INNOCENT VOICES. Directed by Luis Mandoki and produced by Lawrence Bender, the film was Mexico 's official “Best Foreign Language Film” entry for the 78 th Annual Academy Awards (2005). The film allowed Mandoki to return to his Spanish language roots by powerfully depicting the true story of screenwriter Oscar Torres and his mother (portrayal by Varela) who braved the Salvadoran civil war. The film received rave reviews at the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival and the 2004 AFI Film Festival.
Varela's immense talent is evident by the diversity of the roles she has portrayed. She starred opposite Wesley Snipes in New Line's BLADE II, starred opposite Geoffrey Rush in TAILOR OF PANAMA, starred opposite Ashton Kutcher and Dylan McDermott in the feature film TEXAS RANGERS and appeared as a recurring guest lead in the Emmy-winning FOX series ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT.
Varela reached international stardom for her performance opposite Jean Reno and Gerard Depardieu in the mega-hit French comedy TAIS-TOI (aka SHUT UP) which remained number one at the French box office for many weeks, and for her portrayal of a free-spirited, liberal Spanish surgeon in the French film PAS SI GRAVE directed by Bernard Rapp.
Varela currently resides in Los Angeles.

It was one of the big romances in the tabloids 1999, Leonor felt in love with Billy at the Cleopatra-set. He played Mark Antony in the movie.
Back in 1996/97 Leonor started up in the Chilean TV soap TIC TAC, which made her wellknown in Chile.
Leonor's Father Francisco Varela (September 7, 1946 - May 28, 2001) was a Chilean biologist and philosopher most well-known for introducing the concept of autopoiesis to biology.
In January 2006 she was part of a campaign to support the now-president Michelle Bachelet in Chile.</I>
She beat out 35 other actresses to play the title role in Cleopatra.
She appeared on the cover of thirteen separate editions of the Maxim magazine, each naming a different North American city as the greatest on Earth.
She was featured as #11 in Maxim Magazine's "Hot 100 of 2002" supplement.
She is now engaged to photographer Anthony Mandler and plans to marry him in 2006.
