Long Dresses S/S 07

maxi me up - its fab! you either wear it super short or super long! go long! i have!

i have the primark maxi dress in the photo and i simple love it. as its empire line it will billow out everywhere from the bust downwards. its loose but i dont look pregnant! im 6ft so it was great to find a cheap dress that is actually maxi on me! its great with flip flops and a 70's style big hat. i would never wear a waistcoat over it as it just wouldnt go. if you know primark sizing you know what size fits best - i have no problems with the sizing of the dress. as to the cups of the dress - its not a dress that should be worn with a bra thats why it doesnt work well and slips down. the only bra you could actually get away with is a demi-bra!
its a great dress for the money. i agree its not perfect but nothing will be be for a mere 14 quid!

I tried on the one of the long jovovich-mango dress on a whim a while ago. I expected it to look terrible, but it looked really good! It's become one of my favorite dresses. But I think there are some rules you have to keep in mind to pull of a long dress
1. I think long dresses look best on tall to super-tall people (I'm five ten I don't even think my five six sister could pull of the look)
2. You have to keep accesories really simple or else you look over dress. I wear my Mango dress with flat sandels and a really boring brown leather clutch.
3. Long dresses are best when the almost touch the floor. Anything between floor lenght and knee lenght is just going to look awkward.
4. If you're going to cover all of your legs you should show some arm. Otherwise you end up looking like a "colorado city girl", as we say here in Arizona. I think these dress are best when they're sleeveless. The smaller straps balance out the ton of fabric bellow.

But seriously I love my dress so much that I whenever I go out shopping I keep an eye out for more long dresses.

i was at the mango store, tried the DKNY-like-dress, my boyfriend said it looked like a curtain, so well, i didnt buy it then...

I bought this Patrick Robinson pleat-front flowing black dress from Target last week. It fits beautifully and I love it.

I saw that dress too and almost bought it. Except they only had it in black and I own too much black clothing already.

Does anyone have any pics of the Mango dress that looks like the DKNY one? Also how much is it?

I can't wear long dresses - I'm short (5'4) so they just don't work on me.

The Mango dress is online and it's 85 dollars (sorry for some reason I can never figure out how to put links in messages)

I love long dresses....but not with flat sandals? At least for me, too banal...

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!!

Thanks. I hope someone can post a pic. When I went to the site I was unable to find the dress because for some reason it kept freezing my computer up.

:flower: Well said.

I'm 5' 8" and I love long dresses especially in light fabric and colours for day wear. It creates a very beautiful flowy silhouette.

I like long dresses, but they need to have a slimmer silhouette. Otherwise you veer into muumuu-land. Not to many people look attractive in billowy dresses. We're seeing a lot of that with minidresses (babydolls), and I can't seem to make it work (alas that's another topic).

I really like the Mango Jovovich-Hawk dresses. I wish I could wear them I'm 5'10/11 so height isn't a problem but I think having hips and short pixie hair it would just look odd. Long flowing hair definitely looks best.

As for in and out I'm the kind of person that believes you should seek inspiration for style everywhere and don't be a slave or prescribe yourself to being strictly dependent on the season look the "runway"can be adopted and manipulated to suit your own style. Like people who rushed to buy Chloe paddingtons I hardly see those around anymore just seems like a waste to me same for Stam bags.

Madhuri, I really like your dress. This is the only trend which I feel is a must-have for me... I wonder if I would have time tomorrow to go on a hunt for one...

I'm 5'5 so I am little bit afraid I am too short for it, but then again I can't say anything before I have tried.
