Louis Vuitton Handbag Questions (December 2003 - November 2010)

You seem to definitely have the knowledge of what goes on at Louis Vuitton , but if you were ever to launch your own line of accessories circa now. How do you suppose you will find the artistry to develop a hand made bag when in fact you will not have the funding to do so.

Because the things they call art are too expensive. Selling to the masses is the key, not making something so unobtainable that it makes it desirable to people who cannot afford it. Then we wonder why there is world hunger! Because there is poor circulation of capital, People are too busy spending on things they believe are luxury goods when in fact they are not.

I have experienced fashion and the ways fashion houses function and i choose not to indulge in that. I make bags for myself and anyone who may be interested, but i dont think I would ever launch a line of handbags, because of the sad way the market works, my own ethical dilemas with it and also because of inflation in manufacturing. The artistry is dying.

And with what you said in regards to Hermes, I agree. And that company understands that they can capitalize off of people with exorbant amounts of money, to create a piece of art, such as the Birkin, that IS unattainable to the masses.B)

Thanks, Jun. It's a similar problem here.. so-called "Proud Australian" companies designing and producing stuff, but then out-sourcing it to overseas workers. It not only smacks of exploitation, but it's also just plain idiotic - when we do have unemployed, and we're designing some great Aussie stuff, why not get it made here too. It'll cost a little more but we'll more happily buy the product, and then of course their manufacturing costs stay in the country rather than supporting someplace else. Grr.

i agree :D even telstra's gone... jun3, come b an australian and to produce ur bags here..:flower:

I've already lost the key to my LV bag. :hardhead:Does anyone know where I can get another key for my lock or am I just stuck w/o a key?

^ call LV. they may have it. there's a number for the model of lock. they may be able to order in another key i think.. :) good luck!

jun3 i love the neverfull too! which size did u get? i wanted one but didn't buy it coz of the straps.. i had a bad experience with my damier parioli straps, the leather on the straps peeled in less than a year! :( but luckily :) i got it fixed FOC @ LV however :( it took them nearly 3 mths to do it!

i haven' purchased one yet, but am lusting after the MM size. was reading over @TPF about the edging color rubbing off and problems gals have been having with them...but so far, i'm still set on getting one.

your straps peeled though? do you think that would happen with these too?

I'm obsessed with the Neverfull too! (but I think I told you already..... didn't I?) But someone posted it in the Men's Bags section, and now I'm unsure... I mean, it's really cute, roomy, and I thought the GM would be unisex enough.

But I also don't like the fact that the top is open. I'm always scared to carry such bags out, cause when the weather is crap, it might rain into my stuff....

Besides, that Harper's article was kinda dumb. I know that fakes are bad, yes, but funding terrorism? 90% of fakes are produced in China. That's an open secret. And I've yet to see Chinese terrorists. On how the money could someone get from China to some middle eastern country where the terrorists are residing is not described. Under such circumstances, shopping at H&M could also fund terrorism. As does any other brand which produces their things in China.

jun3 - yes, i was afraid it'll happen to the neverful straps :( now i'm buying only those with buckles or links on the straps after what happened with the parioli straps..

street - u've describe my exact feelings for open totes! i was hopeing there was a magnetic button closure on the neverfull but no... :(

awesome frankiep!!!!!!!!!!!!

chic chick~ can you maybe describe a bit more what exactly happened to your straps? is it because they are actually sewn onto the bag? any pics perhaps?? now im a bit worried.....

Girls on TPF have had Neverfull problems with the colour of the lining bleeding onto other parts of the bag.

I love them, though. Also love Batignolles.. if I didn't have my AB Vegas Bucket Bag I'd probably be looking for one of those next, but I don't want to end up with similar bags again as I always favour one and the other gets hardly used. The open top though is SO handy - I never thought I'd like that, but it's fab!

im looking at popincourt haut's, noe's, and the neverfull's.......and saumurs...but those seem difficult to find in good condition....i dont use my papillon that much, just due to the size and how it wants to be a shoulder bag but doesn't quite fit the bill...so im getting rid of that for one of the ones i listed........

I wonder why so many people buy Vuitton's off ebay. Louis Vuitton boutiques are strewn all over the world, no? Plus, I like the treatment one gets when shopping at Vuitton. You don't have any of that when shopping on ebay.

Does this need explanation?! Well obviously not everybody will want a brand new one, and neither can everybody afford one. I'm not paying double the price I got my Speedy for, just for the brief experience of having someone fawn over me whilst I choose a bag from the store! Since not many people keep items forever, of course there'll be a market for both selling and buying. Besides, whilst they might be strewn worldwide, they neglected to have strewn one within 900kms of my wallet, so ebay it is!

hahaha/\ yes, i dont have one closer than a 4 hour car-ride from my home so ebay it is. plus im a notorious antiquer, so i love the thrill of the hunt! PLUS, and this is a huge plus, i'm anal as hell about having french made LV and not USA...for more reasons than one. I tried calling several boutiques to see if they could mail me french made LV products if i placed an order with them, or if i could have one shipped from the paris store, if i paid the appropriate shipping and they came back with the snotty remark, of 'no, all of our products are US made. that's not a feasable request.' why the hell not if im willing to pay the damn shipping? lame!

I prefer the French ones too, and happily both my current and new-to-come Speedy's are French. It just seems more.. right! My Agenda and Cles are both Spanish, but I guess it's close! I'm actually here to post pics of them together, as I think Chick_Chic was interested too in seeing the Agenda & Cles together to use as both diary and wallet. I don't think there's going to be much room in there for the Cles once I get my Filofax refills that should arrive Monday, but I guess I have the rest of the year to trial it before deciding what to do for a diary next year. I've half a mind to buy a medium ring Agenda too, to use as my 'proper' diary, and use this one with a week-to-view refill for quick notes and short entries, like appointments. Either that I guess or I'll get a real wallet (I'd just have to get a Damier Koala with matching red innards) and then have more room for a daily refill.. but others have said you can't fit a whole one in anyway, and I think that would bug me.. oh decisions, decisions!
