Louis Vuitton Handbag Questions (December 2003 - November 2010)

Can anyone tell me please whether LV changed their serial code style during the 80's? I'm talking to a lady about buying her vintage early 80's Mono Speedy 35. She's sent a ton of pics, all of which look great, and when asked about the datecode she says that it's an earlier style which doesn't have the stamp on the leather patch under the inside pocket, but has 'SA' stamped on one of the other leather patches. By leather patches I mean those on the inside of the bag where the handle attaches to.

Does this sound right to any experts out there? I'll upload and post pics later (I'm supposed to be working right now! ), but would just like clarification please on the datecode thingy.

Thanks so much for any replies! :flower:

Okay, it didn't take as long to upload these as I expected, they're small files. It's not had much use for it's age as this lady has a MASSIVE LV collection, and therefore rotation I suppose was slow!

hey frankie...do you have the auction #?? pre 1980's dont have the datecode....there should be one i think...so far, looks okay. im a bit concerned about the stamp on the leather tab...but the pics aren't high quality either....lemme know the auction and i'll look it over for you :)

It's a private sale Jun, so no ebay number. Just someone I've met through another forum who's selling some old stuff of hers. She says it's early eighties and has no inner pocket, and just the letters 'SA' stamped on one internal patch.

frankiep~ i'd say it looks good, but would maybe date it a bit earlier than what she said it's from. even early 1980's bags have the datecodes, but they are only 3 numbers long. late 1980's are 4 numbers. The only bags with exceptions, to my knowledge, are the french company ones. the stitching on the tabs is correct as is the line-up of the monograms.

The 'SA' on that inner tab means it was manufactured in italy. If it has that, I am surprised it doesn't have a number. Ask the seller to check beneath those tabs. Also, check to see where that tab says it was manufactured...if it ads up and she says it says 'made in italy' i'd go for it...

has anyone got the prices for the "cloud" bags? stratus, nimbus etc?

also, are they still out there? Im in california and all of a sudden think I need one. Please let me know, thanks!

I just bought Damier Cles, to attach to my Damier Koala Agenda PM I bought a couple of days ago. I want to use it as a wallet as well as an organiser. Does anyone else here do this too? I'd love to see pics!

^^ frankiep - what a great idea! hmm i just bought a multicolore pochette MM, (it's on it's way!) i wonder if it'll suit my damier small ring agenda  hmm.. clashing LV patterns... is that a do or don't??

Just a quick but important question - I have a Vuitton Sac Rabat Dalmatian and a Vuitton Monogram Velours Trompe l'oeil Trocadero both of which I personally purchased from the LV flagship on the Champs Elysees, Paris. I am curious to know where or if there is a date or code embossed inside these bags because I am at a loss to find them? I also have a Cherry Blossom Papilion which also has no date code. These bags are without question authentic but this date code thing is it fact or fiction???

I'll ask this on TPF if you like, Grill. Those LV experts know everything!!!

Chic Chick, I think the Pochette MM might be a bit big anyway. And, um, there might be a teeny bit of clash..

I was wondering about clash when deciding which Cles to get, as I'd read on TPF of others doing the Agenda/Cles thing for organiser/wallet, and absolutely loved the idea. I got the Damier in the end as the Cles would stay mostly on the inside, so would look great against the red. My other option was a Vernis Pomme (too red-on-red inside, but would look great if I left it outside); or Mono Cerises, which I decided against simply because I thought Damier in and out was smarter. The clash thing is a hard question, even for mono/damier, which are the same colours anyway!

These are fakes!!

When you buy fakes you are funding terrorism and child labor!

Think about it folks, if you cant afford don't fight it.

COACH is an all American luggage company that will one day be the American Version of the Louis Vuitton. There less expensive just like Vuitton was when it first started to sell in the 1800s.

How are you sure it's fake, Mota? All other details on the bag look authentic, it's just the older datecode that's causing confusion.
