Louis Vuitton S/S 2020 Paris

it's a major improvement of last season - that's for sure.
there are many cool pieces individually.
hate the shoes. love most bags.

the styling could be better though...

It’s not vile or offensive to they eye like seasons past. However, he really needs to move forward from the 70’s and 80’s. His referencing to the past is getting tired. He’s more than capable of producing something modern and new. Most of this collection is old clothes. It’s pretty and well made, but old. He’s continuously struggling to mix his retro/futuristic aesthetic with something for today. Once he nails that mix we will finally see the magic.

But I don’t think he is trying to « nail that mix ». His Balenciaga was really about a singular vision. Each season was a statement that kinda erased the the statement before but was also complementary of his whole body of work.

Balenciaga was really Fashion with a capital F. It was about a silhouette, a look, a strong visual impact.

Vuitton is about commerce, pieces...You go to buy a bag and maybe you can buy a sweater with it. And somehow his work for Vuitton make sense to me...He is always turning around the same ideas. From the start, it has always been about the 70’s, the 80´s with more or less intensity and at Vuitton his work has been much more decorative and he is really pushing himself.

Yes, Vuitton is big money but you have to be rational. His work is not to create an identity there...

No surprise everyone hates this collection on here (pretty much). From an aesthetic/singular vision point of view this really sucks, but I don't mind the actual clothes in a way. It does indeed look like a poor man's version of a 2004 Marc by Marc collection, but maybe in 2019 that's cool.

At this point I do wonder if he's even involved in the design of this, everything does seem very phoned in.

Fabulous show! Fabulous collection...
Seriously, the set was a bit weird...It was gigantic but it felt like they tried to create a feeling of intimacy. It would have made sense for me to have a set similar to his earlier collections (a whole parcours instead of just a back and forth runway)...

That being said! Those clothes were fabulous and Nicolas really gave me once again a feeling of high fashion.
We get it, it’s time to show clothes and more than that, to sell clothes but Nicolas gave clothes that are worth looking and buying. And I have to say that i’m always curious to see where he can take me in terms of pushing my taste and his own taste.

It’s weird because it looked familiar but also quite fresh in terms of colors expérimentations and embellishments. I don’t think the photos does justice to those clothes but they were very beautiful in that environment.

He went back to the silhouette of his earlier collections but added more layers to them. I really really really liked that collection! And the bags!!!!!

It’s really one of my favorite this season...
And I think that people felt it in the audience. There was a great energy (maybe because some remembered how gloomy Chanel was this morning).
I totally agree! Seems to be an unpopular opinion but I loved it.

This collection is either love it or hate it.

And I think it's absolutely cracking. What I love the most is how he use this same idea at LV but is able to recycle it. Find new ways to express his idea. And the clothes finally have improved. The colors are very interesting. Not everything works but then I never look for perfection at NG work. He makes you sit up, look at it and think about it. At least he's pushing it even though he can really just cops out and sell only handbags.

Also those suits look

Some of the looks in here are straight out of a bad Miu Miu show ca. 2005 (A-line miniskirts shown with questionable 70's prints, the quirky jewelry and hats, etc.) not that different from what we have today since Katie Grand was there as well, which is to mean...not good. The simpler dresses at the end are not bad but he's presented better versions of those before.

I'm honestly not expecting the same level of mastery as a decade ago but even then, this is dissapointing. I do think that most of his shows for this brand you either love or hate, I remember being one of the few that was really feeling his Memphis design tribute last spring. Maybe next season I'll be into his clothes once more.

P.S: Those vests had me gagging, that's one 00's trend that needn't make any form of comeback. It still looks HIDEOUS.

I think it one of the best Louis Vuitton collection from Nicolas. But after said that I also think it look like Marc Jacobs or something from Miu Miu!!?!?

It's no secret that I find Nicolas' Vuitton hideous but I actually like so many of the pieces here even though it lacks punch and cohesion as a show. The pants are very well cut, the blazers are sharp and wearable (I am particularly in love with that baggy navy one with satin lapels). Admittedly, the collection does veer into crazy territory, and there are some looks that feel like they don't even belong in a catalog, but I don't know - I finally feel like Nicolas has presented clothes that people would like to wear every day without the fear of looking like fashion victims, and he hadn't done that since his first two collections for the brand imo.

I really loved it but yeah it is like the love child of Marc Jacobs and Prada but it was far better than the hard edged and monotonous 80s music looks of his past collections, so I like this new softer look, its more wearable and has a flou like quality which is much needed.

The more I look at it, the more I...like it...

I think Nicolas is testing people’s perception of what is good and bad taste. So far it is actually working because people everywhere online are polarized with his LV. He may be actually pleased with that tbh, whether it’s praise or scathing criticism.

His look at LV is probably just for LV, the same as how his look for Balenciaga was just for that house. I think we will see different, surprising sides of him as his career evolves.

Went to the Re-see and it was really exceptional. The craftmanship is very insane and the pieces, without the styling really standout!
The little dresses and the coats, the pants and the knitted vests were fabulous!
Those clothes looked even better without the styling of MAS.
I was less convinced by the bigger silhouettes (the last few looks). They are good as inspiration for the eveningwear of the commercial collection but I doubt they will make it to production.
The bags were silly and fun and that’s what a luxury customer wants today...

I like it even more now!

I still regret that this collection didn’t have a life on the Redcarpet…
