I showed this one to my mom, who is Taiwanese-American by nationality (but of mixed lineage) and she was captivated in the worst way possible. Said something along the lines of "this girl is horrifying, but you can't stop looking at her!" Of course, the fashion industry probably expects this type of reaction. If this is the fashion industry's idea of a joke I don't find it particularly funny. I wonder if she knows she's being used in this offensive fashion; I would never take part in this.
Oddly, she looks the best in this candid photo:
than in all of the professional shots. Do the other 3 girls look similar to her, just less exaggerated?
What is her name exactly, Lu Yan? I know of no Asian name spelled "Lv".
and btw, my mom has spent time with Hakkanese (ke jia people who migrated from south central China) while in Taiwan (I think there are 5 major ethnic subgroups in Taiwan), and she said they most certainly do not resemble this girl although anything is possible. If I had to guess, I'd say perhaps Mongolian or Tibetan but I really can't place her (have to admit, I'm hella curious, too).
Anyway, using her to generate this sort of reaction is not humorous in the slightest. For once I wish the fashion industry would take Asian models seriously if they are going to hire them at all.
EDIT: This might sound offensive to some people but I'm going to say it anyway--I don't think it's terribly likely that she's of Han background because her teeth are so beautiful. Nice and even and perfectly straight.
