MacBook

yeah I'm slowly getting the hang of it. The one thing I will miss however is OneNote, which was the notetaking software I used for my pc. I downloaded a trial of circusponies (out of the ones for mac, i like their layout the best) and we'll see. But I miss onenote!

i agree meg. it only took me a mere two or three days to totally get the hang of the whole system set-up on my first so i shouldn't be too worried. that's the one thing apart from most everything else()that apple can really boast. that easy transition from pc to mac.

have you searched through the apple forums about your notes program? perhaps you could query one of those people there to find something suitable.

Meg, try EverNote or Google Notebook (even though the last ones not updated according to google, its still a great tool.)

Does anyone know if there is a paint equivalent on/for mac?

Neeky, If its for photo editing like cropping and resizing, use the website http://www.picnik.com/ Its free, you dont have to register and it lets you save to desktop or upload. Great tool!

If its for doing little drawings, theres Seashore (mac equivalent to Gimp), Pixen and Paintbrush to name a few. Try them out and see what suits you best.

I think Gimp came for mac too, but Im not sure. I use Photoshop and Elements for everything.

thanks for the tip Petrine. I had considered EverNote simply because it's OneNote compatible, so you can transfer your files on PC into Evernote and then from PC Evernote to Mac Evernote (if this makes sense). But I found a better solution - just printing things. Since I only have about 4 weeks of actual class note taking left to do, I'll just do whatever is cheap

Thanks Petrine that site is great... hopefully I can try others to.

what does everyone use to protect their screen? I'm trying to change my bad habits (of not looking after things properly) and I'm religiously cleaning my screen but I also just ordered the radtech screensavrz which is a super thing microfibre cloth that protects your screen from your keyboard (this is a major problem I've had with my previous two laptops. After awhile, there get to be marks on the screen from the oil on the keypad). Has anyone had experience with this? I only paid $15 for it online so I guess we'll see....

I have a huge dent in the top of mine and I have no idea how it came about. So sad. And one of the corners is always ajar even when it is closed.

I always thought that apple was too trendy for me and then I got a macbook as present from my daddy in jan. and I love it sooo much. It's so easy to use and I can't believe I've been living in the dark ages of the pc world.

^I think so.
why would you want windows on a mac, though? do you need autocad or any of these non-mac programs?, that was one of the reasons why I couldn't convince my mom to get a mac a couple months ago, which was totally understandable..

I'm used to Windows.

I also go on some websites that can't support the MAC OS programs.

I've been considering either MacBook or an HP. So I am trying to decide what will be best, quality wise and money wise.

If you're ONLY gonna use Windows on a macbook then you're paying incredibly much for just the design!!!

But yes, you can use Windows on a mac, and change between without much difficulty. Just remember to get lots of HD-space since you're gonna have to split it :)

To use windows on a mac you use something called bootcamp, that allows you as ElectricAlyce said to switch between both platforms.
My advise would be to consider if you would be using windows the majority of the time maybe getting a pc is the choice for youself.
more info on bootcamp can be found here:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bootcamp.html

It's a crime using a program as awful as windows in a Mac, why buy one then?

Some programs you'd need are only available for Windows, as if you enjoy playing games. My fiancé has Windows on her MacBook Pro, mainly for gaming - I would too but I got a older MacBook and crammed with raw-images and working files for graphic projects I only got 2GB free space right now XD

So yeah, windows on a mac can be a really really smart idea, then you got it all - but if you are mainly gonna use Windows as an operating system then you are throwing money out the window for nice industrial design.

Does MAC have an option to get Windows?

you can either use bootcamp - which is a mac programm that allows you to do a partitioning of your hard drive or there's a program called "parallels desktop".
i used bootcamp and divided my HD. now i have 130 GB for MAC OS and 30 GB for Windows. although now that i' accustomed to MAC OS I'm already thinking about removing windows :innocent: Windows Vista is more than instable and only causes problems. why would you ruin a macbook with windows :p
