Macca’s divorce lawyer lined up for encore with Madonna

She did it for Macca - now can she do it for Madonna? Fiona Shackleton, the divorce lawyer who ensured that Sir Paul McCartney retained all but £24.3 million of his £825 million fortune, has been lined up by the pop star.

Madonna, whose fortune is estimated to be worth £300 million, is understood to be seeking legal advice on a possible divorce from her husband of seven years, the film director Guy Ritchie. Ms Shackleton, 52, is the lawyer of choice for the rich and famous after what was regarded as the spectacularly well-handled split of Sir Paul from Heather Mills, who was rumoured to be pushing for £80 million.

Dubbed the “steel magnolia” for her tough but pragmatic negotiation tactics, Ms Shackleton instructed the top divorce silk, Nicholas Mostyn, QC. They secured such a successful result that Ms Mills emptied a jug of water over Ms Shackleton’s head after hearing the judge’s ruling.

Ms Shackleton also acted for the Prince of Wales in his divorce.

Yesterday Madonna’s spokesman refused to comment on the claims. But one lawyer told The Times that the word in legal circles was that Madonna had gone to Ms Shackleton after making an approach to another firm. Guy Ritchie is thought to have had dealings with a lesser-known Mayfair law firm, Forsters.

There has been speculation for some time over the marriage of Madonna, 49, and Ritchie, 39. It is thought that the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement, which means that the starting point for any settlement would be a 50-50 split.

There have been reports in tabs about this for weeks now but since this is from a legit source I figured it was time to post something. But we'll see if anything gets filed and becomes official...

Divorce or not, I don't think that Guy Ritchie would go after 50% of his ex-wife's income. He just doesn't strike me as that kind of person.

firstly, i highly doubt that guy is going to go after a greedy sum from Madonna, he is quite content to do his own thing and doesn't seem to need her money to do the things he likes to do.
secondly, im surprised that this hit the press so early, it was supposed to be a quiet settlement.
thirdly, i feel quite sorry for both of them because they have been drifting further and further apart for the last few years and neither have made an effort on this relationship

The only BIG issue will probably be the kids. Well, the two boys anyway...

As far as money, I was under the impression that Guy came from a wealthy family, isn't that right?

I don´t know how it is over the Uk, but here you can have a pre nuptial where you go for the total separation of goods (don´t know if this makes sense), so you don´t have to share with your husband/wife, what you earned for yourself.

If there is such and agreement over there, i´m pretty sure Madonna has one! lol

i hope he divorces her... that woman lost touch with reality

i'm sorry to hear this...i always thought guy seemed really good for madonna, and vice versa i suppose..

I find this really sad too, although I watched Madonna's latest documentary "I'm Going To Tell You A Secret" and I did find that scene where she's on the bed with Rocco going, "who's the queen?" and he's going "you, you, you" a bit disturbing. I'm a huge Madonna fan but it must be so difficult to be in a relationship with her... she would have to psyche herself up so much to do what she does, and then how do you figure out how to come down and just be a vulnerable person after that? Guy has looked a little steamrolled since he got with her...

Her rep is not offering any comment or denial, a couple months ago when this chatter got loud she was quick with a response, this time not so much...

I wonder if it will all be sooner rather than later.

I agree! And i also love her work and i´m a fan but she must be a really hard person to relate to. To accomplish what she did one has to be really determined and a bit bitchy.

oh i really don't want to believe this. :p..i know that's silly but i really thought he'd be the one to 'ground' her...and especially after this recent adoption...i feel sorry for the kids...guy must have really brought some stability to their lives...
and you're probably right magpie....with the career that she has had (and still has), she'd be an incredibly difficult person to live with in a relationship day in and day out... i wonder if she is just the kind of woman who feels like any relationship is too 'limiting'....i thought she seemed really genuinely happy and at peace with guy... who knows i guess..

Someone got the seven year itch :innocent:
It's amazing how Entertainment Tonight is talking as if the divorce is official but we haven't even heard anything from their reps yet! But what else is new I guess.

I don't think Guy would run Madonna dry merely for the fact that he is a man's man... he's always seemed determined to show the world that he isn't Mr. Madonna.

I, for one, really hope it isn't true; I like them together.

It's Official: Madonna & Guy Ritchie Are Divorcing

Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie are ending their almost-eight-year marriage, a rep for the singer confirmed Wednesday.

"Madonna and Guy Ritchie have agreed to divorce after seven-and-a-half years of marriage. They have both requested that the media maintain respect for their family at this difficult time," read the short statement e-mailed to the Associated Press by Liz Rosenberg.

The statement, which was co-signed by Ritchie's representative, also said that the couple had not agreed to a settlement.

"The judgment of the court would be to try and assess what they came in with and divide what they built up fairly equally," said David Allison, a lawyer with Family Law in Partnership, a London firm, told the Associated Press.

In a front page story Wednesday, Britain's The Sun newspaper claimed that the couple will be issuing a statement "imminently" on the demise of their often tempestuous relationship, which has been the subject of much speculation in recent months.

Contacted by PEOPLE, a rep for Madonna declined to comment on the story.

Madonna, 50, is in the midst of her Sticky and Sweet tour and is set to play Boston tonight. Ritchie, 40, was believed to be on the set of his latest film, Sherlock Holmes.

Reached at their home in London, his family declined to comment.

-----------

I just watched it on CNN news. So sad. I really thought they would go to the end.

Now "everyone" is calling her a sl*t and that he should go after her money. There are kids involved. It's sad.

on perezhilton.com its official. there is even a statement from madonna's publicist.

i mean.. i knew its coming.. there is someting about madonna that repulses me. i cant even listen to her songs on the radio. i hope guy will come back for good to the movie world.. for me he is much more talented than this old woman. he is so talented in the directing field. and she can't even sing properly...

I actually thought they might try to work it out after being humiliated all summer over the A-Rod drama. But there were rumors all years that she was waiting till the tour was close to over...looks like Guy wanted out quicker.

I'm guessing she will move back to NY, I believe the report that Lourdes wants to be closer to her dad. She is getting older and probably has more of an opinion about such things.
