Madonna I Married Guy To Make Me Look Good

Madonna has admitted she only married husband Guy Ritchie to make her "look good".
The pop superstar wed the English film director in December 2000 but now says she tied the knot with him for all the wrong reasons.
She told Tatler: "I went into the marriage saying, 'He's fantastically talented, very witty, very smart. He's going to make me laugh and look good because he's so successful and, of course, he's gorgeous, sexy and handsome."
However, the mum-of-two says she now realises what marriage is about and what makes one strong.
She added: "But none of these things mean anything after you've been sharing a life together for a few years and you're dealing with raising children and scheduling and finances. You have to go back to what is the point of marriage.
"You go to school to learn how to learn and I think marriage is about learning to learn as well. Diane Sawyer once said to me that a good marriage is a contest of generosity - I thought that was a good thing to say."

 Why would she say something like that about her own marriage?

She should look up for "LOVE" in the dictionary.

Indeed. Indeed. It appears to me that she has lost all sense for that ca. 1990...

Maybe I missed something? All she said is that all the superficial crap you value in the beginning means absolutely nothing. Anyone who has been married for any length of time knows that marriage isn't all "Hallmark" moments. She appreciates the depth of her relationship and I see that as a good thing. Granted, she's not the most eloquent person in the world, but I see nothing negative in her comment.

She said that a while back, and I remember people jumping all over the comment. I am sure it was taken out of context somehow. In any case, who would want to marry someone who made them look bad?

Oh boy. Is she egging him for a divorce or something?

Great reason to get married Madonna! *rolls eyes*

Maybe she meant she was "smitten". And and in a way thought he was close to perfect and realizes that looks and succes aside you have to work at a relationship.

Am I the only one who thinks Madonna speaks out of her ***? She is assertive and intimidatingly successful therefore everyone thinks she's intelligent but every time she opens her mouth I find myself rolling my eyes. I'm not saying she's dumb I just don't think she's very clever.

The quote just reads like somebody who's asked to say something about their marriage *for the record* who really doesn't want to say anything about their marriage *for the record*.So quote the sage, um, Diane Sawyer, and see who wins "a contest of generosity" between the baronet's stepson and a pop star! Wow! I'd say the potlatch goes to Ms. Michigan!

Tatler
, huh? Dicey rag, keep mum, Madge!

All of these statements recently must be for a worldwide anunciation of divorce.
I say go ahead and stop explaining!!!

I agree as well ... she may use some comments for mere shock value and seel the frikkin mag ... but at the end she does tell something thats' true and very honest and personal ... its good of her to share all this worries ... I mean ... it makes you think twice about marriage AND how you deal with it

Well, at least she's honest and admits it. I mean, how many celebrities admit they didn't marry for love?

Jennifer Lopez/Cris Judd, Lisa Marie Presley/Michael Jackson, Nicky Hilton/I forget, Britney Spears/Jason Alexander, Angelina Jolie/Billy Bob, Milla Jovovich/first husband, Drew Barrymore/Tom Green, Carmen Electra/Dennis Rodman, and many more didn't marry for love.

At least Madonna and Guy are still together.

totally agree

while it comes accross as bitchy I think Madonna's comments are actually fairly insightful. I suspect she didn't "consciously" marry him for those reasons when it happened. but in her own quest for self understanding I think that she's coming to these conclusions as she sees her marriage evolve.
