Maison Martin Margiela S/S 2012 Paris

^I second the fussy sentiment. But I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing, at least for me, as someone who's not really all that familiar with MMM aesthetic.

For me this is quite nice. Good turnout after the disaster that was Fall 2011 collection, and back on track to where SS11 collection was going. I do find the whole collection a bit unfocused, but that's not a deal breaker. I'm just glad someone is putting out a collection that's not boring, since that's been the theme this whole season.

the boots...like a spin on his old tabi boot. you can definitely sense that they're trying to keep as much as margiela in the label as they possibly can. it didn't work at the beginning but i assume that's because of disorganization and finally they've hired on a permanent designer.

thanks for those detail footwear shots!...
:p

scott--- yes- totally...
it's the tabi boot without being the tabi boots...
so, once again- making margiela more user-friendly...
but sticking to the original DNA of the label...

i wonder though...
i would never wear the tabi boots myself...
but i don't know if i still like that heel without the split toe...
:ermm:

i like the new toe---but i kind of want a new heel to go with it!...
...

oh well- i guess you can't have everything...
maybe next season they will go that extra step and i'll get my boots!...

^you know,i think the heel works best with the tabi style. also the boots don't look nearly as sturdy or structured as the tabi's either. come to think of it,looking at that aspect more, that's the only thing that i outright don't really care that much more. they do look a little cheaply made.

funny story about tabi the though....i really wanted a pair of those when i visited cocodrillo in antwerp and was going to try a pair on too but sadly they didn't have a pair in a large enough women's size for me.

I think that the whole collection jumps about a little bit and could be more cohesive. I love it in places and don't care for it in others. I think that the plastic covered print pieces stand out. I like the proportions on some of the jackets; one of the grey ones reminded me a bit of CdG F/W 10.

I always do a little prayer every season that this label becomes available where I live :( I would love to buy and MMM's menswear. This is such a beautiful collection.

Regardless if MM is behind this, I absolutely love this collection. It is one of the most elegant and quietly subversive collections I've seen, especially the leather jackets. I think it is missing MM's sharper edge, but nonetheless a worthwhile effort. I would wear these pieces!

Very wearable collection, of course apart from the plastic 'capes'. But it looks a bit too dark for a summer.

VERY wearable, especially the jackets! loving the cuts! finally a good collection this spring!

I literally laughed out loud at the rugs-packed-in-plastic looks. :p But there are, indeed, some pretty stylish pieces here; I am drawn to some of the dresses in particular and the length of the dresses and skirts in general - adds a lot of drama.

the rugs dresses are the only 3 pieces that are standing out, they are actually sequinned carpets on fabric, which are beautifully done and very very MARGIELA

Yes, well, a lot of older MM would draw that sort of "lol" reaction I had to the rugs, right? Very humourous designer back in the day, tongue-in-cheek.

My favorite of the rug pieces is the cape, like she just picked up a rug and threw it over her shoulders. The one worn as a dress makes me think of the Marianne Faithful story: all she was wearing was a rug when the police broke in to bust Mick & Keith.

I agree. These pieces do stand out. I'd prefer them without the plastic covers, but those definitely add wit. :)

Beautiful collection, I loved the silhouettes and there are so many stunning individual pieces there, make me so longing to touch them, can't wait for them to arrive at the shops. So perfectly balanced and restrained edge-iness (if this makes any sense?)
Great concept with the faceless models too.
