Marc Jacobs F/W 2020.21 New York

Love how clean it is, but there were too many coats. In a way I can see him at Chanel playing with the house codes.

Wonder if Chanel ever considered Marc… He would absolutely revive the brand the way that Karl did— and he’d electrify the Chanel accessories/bags the way that he did for LV. Chanel is flatlining its last gasp right now. They need Marc.

For sure. I don't believe his moment has passed as he might have insinuated in his New York Times piece.

I like the collection. As others have noted, the 60s vibe updated is a winner.
Now, will someone please walk Miley back to her crypt?

Wednesday Addams meets mod, meets disco fever, meets cocktails at 7, meets... dancers from Karole Armitage... my head spinning.

Tears of joy. I can’t even recover from this. I’m beyond excited and obsessed.
Literally I don’t even know what to say about the clothes because the show said it all. It’s FABULOUS. Seriously this has to be the hit of the season and deliver the financial success that Marc was waiting for.
The collection reminded me what I miss of fashion and the most important thing: the emphasis of making good, desirable and humorous clothes. Of course the whole thing is the big deal but for me the clothing was the real star here.
I really hope they won’t get lazy with Meisel for the advertising campaign. They have the chance to be back at the top again.
Spectacular show and gracias.

I’m back to post again...still haunted by how perfect it all was!

We’ll see how it all plays out over the next month...we all know it’s hard to sustain the magic of a moment, with social media cutting the lifespan of such events so short....but if by the end of the season, this show and collection still resonates and stands out above and beyond the rest, I think Marc may have paved the way forward for everyone and put himself front and center, where he had been for so many years.

I mentioned I think this is his best collection since Spring 2016, but upon further reflection, I think it may even been his best show since the iconic topsy-turvy, upside down Spring 2008.

There’s simply not enough I can say to compliment this collection. It captures so much. It’s so evocative. And it’s all so damned attractive looking.

You all know how bitter and jaded I am about fashion around here LOL, so for a collection to get a rise out of me like this really means something!

^^^ Glad it's exciting for you again.

Simplicity is the hardest magic to capture right. It’s what Helmut and Jil did so well and others are still trying to catch up to. And it’s what's capture so beautifully in this collection— from casting/styling/hair/MU/mood/attitude. The best momentum for this collection is that the pure visuals made the impact, with not a word needed. No pseudo-pyschobabble like at Prada; no obnoxious and shallow slogans like at Dior; and no dumbing down and desperately seeking to be down with the kidz like everyone else. Just no nonsense, gorgeous womanly designs that compliments the wearer. I don’t think he ever falters when Marc does America.

While this is a great collection, I don’t think this collection will result in a big financial hit! I think in the last reports, it was said that the brand is doing slightly better...

This is a very Fashion proposition. The people who buys MJ are fashion customers anyway (and not necessarly luxury customers) and you have to commit to the look or at least find the fun aspect of dressing like a bourgeoise, or at least, of appreciate the down-to-earth quality of this collection.
There are things that are on my wishlist because I love the idea of being commited to the aesthetic. I love the shorts, the coats (that silver one) and even the look on Miley but I love thinking that I will wear it with kitten heels and a cashmere sweater and even go further by adding a brooch.

With this type of collections, the job of an editor is really crucial. The point is how to go beyond the 60’s and can a beautiful car coat, as beautiful and timeless as it can be, have the same impact with jeans and sneakers?

A very lite version of Chanel by Lagerfeld...
You think? I see Stephen Sprouse and self references to Marc...Very little Chanel by Karl.

I think Marc should do a Chanel/Karl inspired collection and maybe call it « hommage à Karl ». I think it could be great and it could definitely be a commercial hit. Like a slap in a face to Virginie and I’m sure Chanel customers will notice that!

The jackets remind me of Chanel RTW f/w 95-96. Even the use of the turbans...

Bravo Marc!

When he was at Louis Vuitton, his mission with both LV and his namesake as the years went on was to make increasingly big blockbuster shows with instantly recognizable references that would generate the trends for that fashion season. But looking back on the past decade, I continue to have a real fondness for the Marc Jacobs collections that were more subdued and less overtly thematic. Remember his F/W 2010 and F/W 2013? Such lovely, elusive shows...but filled with fabulous pieces to wear and treasure forever. It feels like he's tapping into that sort of simplicity, and it feels right.

I mean, take for example the looks on Gigi and Sarah Brannon...what's not to like? They manage to feel nostalgic, timeless, and current all at the same time. Maybe it's a comfort zone, maybe it's autopilot...but I'll gladly take it.

And the casting and presentation is terrific. The way that the models were coming and going from different directions, as if they're all characters toiling around the city and randomly crossing paths...just wonderful.

It is always a joy when his collection is good. The presentation did give me migrane but I thought the clothes are great. It can still need editing but this is more streamline and very beautiful to watch. I don't really think this is his audition to Chanel because I see a lot of self-reference here. Although I want to see his hommage to Karl and a Chanel audition collection. I imagine it will be very very fabulous. Also, having Karlie walked in that ensemble is really great.

It's less matronly than the last few seasons but much like his Montana homage a few seasons ago, this left me stone cold. Prada S/S 19 for one was a much more exciting take on the 60's.

He did show some good pieces but nothing I would rave about.

I think this comment section is the perfect case study of why this forum is dead in a lot of respects...the way you guys critic/slander literally every other collection bar a few favs ...but find this amazing is pretty hilarious to ME...rose tinted glasses & Nostalgia i suspect...i don't get it...maybe i'm too young...i mean my first fashion show i went to was Balmain ss 2008 so there's that..but i digress...meh ..

This forum is dead because fashion is dead.

Personally guilty of this of crime you just described. Hated the entire NYFW with the exception of one or two shows, including Marc because I have a very soft spot for him (and I'm a sucker for those headwear type things here) and despite enjoying and loving this collection I can admit that it's really not all that. I also found the whole performance thing he had going on rather clumsy. But compared to all the other collections we've seen this past week, at least there was some spirit to it. In current standards, this is way above average!
You have a little good old Prada, a little Marc for LV, a little glamour and Bella looking drop dead gorgeous. It's the peak of modern fashion!
