Maria Grazia Chiuri - Designer, Creative Director of Christian Dior

Which one is it, out of curiosity?
East Asia at least in those companies I had worked for and sometimes they will give you one or three days to hand out your work to the new employee who take over your position. Well, maybe decent is an exaggerating word but we do pretend to be decent.

But a designer is not technically an employee in the common sense.
I don’t know how to explain it in English but in a lot of cases, it’s too entities coming together under a contract. Dior would be in a way a client of MGC who is giving the exclusivity of her talent to the company for a defined period. That’s why at that level, lawyers are involved.
It’s not a typical employee to boss kind of relationship.

That’s why designers create their own little company to protect the moral person (the entity) to the physical person (the designer).

Why? If they’re acting against her contact, why is she in the wrong for filing this alleged lawsuit?
If she has a problem with the designer who will replace her working in a separate studio that does not prevent her from completing her contract successfully in anyway whatsoever, then it reads as bitter to me. You have to pick your battles here. What does she gain in the end ?

I have a question for you Europeans since I know little about your corporate culture: Is it a specific case of MGC at Dior or it is the same in other fashion houses during CD changes? When would the new CD join the brand? Does the new CD come in after the ex-CD leave the position or they overlap for several months?

It’s not about European employment culture, it’s more about CD’s being a part of the global “talent” industry that relies on contracts just like athletes, actors, directors, models, etc.

It’s a bit in bad taste the way things are being handled. MGC helped make Dior billions of dollars, but a few bad quarters (not specific to Dior either) and they already have her replacement working for months while she still has to put out 3+ collections. It’s an over correction from when Raf didn’t renew and it took them a year to find a replacement.

What does she lose in the end?

We have to also remember Kim Jones exited the brand. Since JWA is taking over the entire house allegedly, should he seriously have to wait to work until MGC takes her final bow when menswear is shown less than a month after her Rome show ? That'd be ridiculous. It's not like he, Dior, or LVMH publicly announced he's taking over yet. She had her tenure with a nice paycheck and will have her farewell moment in Rome.

If she feels some type of way, she's entitled to that 100%, but if she is causing havoc on the way out, is it worth it ?

Well for one, if she allegedly does not want to work at a house less prestigious than Dior, her options are limited there. Where can she go ? Kicking up dust when you are on your way out already because another designer is working separately is not a good look in my book.

Is there a clause in her contract that forbid LVMH to employ another designer?
Probably yes she has that clause, if she committed to work exclusively for Dior's womenswear (couture and RTW), Dior probably committed to not work with other designers for the same segment at the same time, if she had good lawyers.
That looks fair and square.
And they'll probably say JWA is only working on menswear anyway.

Yasss Maria Grazia. She’s smart woman!!!

So happy she’s blocking JWA! OMG so happy! Curtains guy thought he will arrive with fanfare, at the end it just looks like he is fired, not saying he is, just saying it’s an “maybe”option. We don’t know. Nobody denied or confirmed.

She’s not blocking him at all 🤣 She will be said bye bye super soon, then they will see if she’s right in court

Ok. If she has good lawyers…
But then, since Kim Jones’s position is free and she can’t possibly prove that he is working on womenswear unless she does some kind of industrial spying, do we have to take the lawsuit seriously.
You’ll saying that for three years now. She’s still there.
JWA has been working for Dior for a month now…
JWA at Dior is probably the worst kept secret of fashion since Nicolas at Vuitton.

He's literally already in the building according to several people. Her contract is ending anyway so she is not blocking anything. You think if the courts side with her that they will force Dior to make her stay ? If anything, she'll have some extra money to put into that new ugly bag for « D-JOURNEY » out of 30 Ave Montaigne. Ciao !!!

You can also see that Dior is shifting its marketing strategy for the new change. The whole D-Journey campaign (god bless whoever purchased that bag) is much more tongue-in-cheek and less serious than anything Dior has released since Galliano left the building. Thanks god no "this D-Journey bag is made for a feminist at heart, who has to carry the weight of the whole world on her shoulder."

I just hope that this is the beginning of the Dior (House of Fun) again. Remember when someone in this forum used to call it Dior House of Trash? Lol
