I didn't know she had smoked...but well it is not surprising either:)

I really like a lot of different icons from the past.I think every one of those women had something great
.And i dont play favourite! But Monroe was so special like someone wrote you just want to take care of her!Wich is so sad because off camera no one did!
I think she is the most underrated actress in film history. She had such a great comic timing and was great in drama as well.Just look at the Misfits or Some Like IT Hot-incredible!I am so sad that all these people still use her and her image from writers, directors, artists her image is being draged throu so many things its awful.Everyboday thinks they know her or who she was.But i dont think they(we)do!
She still after all this time fascinates people!

I was in Los Angeles 2 years ago and i visited her grave and was shocked to see so many flowers and notes. And after some time other people came it was amazing to see how many people still care!

What do you mean by that? Maybe in her youth but I don't know if she was actually neglected in her adult times. She was messed up and alone ('spiritually' speaking), but she did have people who cared about her ---she did have a lot of friends. And I don't really believe that her two last husbands didn't care of her, especially Arthur Miller. I think she messed up her life by herself, it wasn't anybody else's fault. In the end, you take care of yourself, nobody else can do it for you.

I dont agree with you she didnt had any real friends!
And her husbands were never there for her.Specially when they saw that they didnt marry Marilyn Monroe but Norma Jean Baker, after the mith was broken!
Sure she had friends but not real ones she was used and abused by them!If she had people around her that cared she would be still alive!
But i agree that you take care of yourself and nobady can do it for you.
But others can guide, tell and make you see the truth and help you thru it!She was considerd a joke in Hollywood and among her piers and showbiz friends like Frank Sinatra,Peter Lawford and others who only paraded her at their partys.
Arthur Miller never cared for her he tryed but soon as her troubels and demons appeard he bailed! And not only that he wrote a play:After the Fall about her and who ever saw it knows just how disguasting it is,showcasing Monroe as a sick woman!Arthur Miller never cared,he married a movie star and sex symbol but he got more than he asked for a wounded creature in a need of help that he didnt give!
I know that you are gonna say i cant know all this for sure but it was documented in a lot of books and documentaries from people who were there! And i read and saw almost all of them!
Sure she had friends. But too late, after her death a lot of them made fotunes from their friendship with her going to talk shows, writing books(even her houskeeper Eunice Murry wrote one)telling stories that can never be confirmed!
I think the only one who truly cared was Joe Dimaggio who was there till the end and showed(in my opinion)how much he loved her by refusing Hollywood to attend her funeral. He told Frank Sinatra that he is not welcomed or others who helped her end like that!I think the picture from the funeral were Joe Dimaggio is crying is incredible you can see the pain on his face. And if Frank Sinatra had organised the funeral like he planned to,we would have not seen that pain!
This is my personnal opinion after all the years of being her fan reading and seeing all about her i think she was alone and she died alone!

I don't believe she didn't have any true friends, only very, very, very few though. It might be that she didn't have any, but I don't know. Maybe I made a too quick judgement... Joe DiMaggio (like you said) ,I think, did care for her. She was considered a joke and there are hundreds of people who considered themselves her "friend" after she died, or, when she was alive, were there only because of Marilyn the money-making machine/Marilyn the sex goddess. A good example is her first husband...who published a book about her, even though she wasn't even famous when they knew eachother.

I haven't,unfortunately, seen that play of Miller's, but Marilyn was a sick woman. I'm not saying she was a crazy psycho-freak as somebody mean with the word 'sick', but she had a lot of psychological problems such as deep depression, drug addiction, bad self-image... Unfortunately she was very sick.

And I do believe that you know a lot about this.

Thanks for posting those great pictures! :flower:

Yeah, she had problems a lot of them but would you call her sick.I wouldnt but i am her fan.
Dont you think that a writer like Arthur Miller didnt need to show her so horrible! And use his marriage for work.I think that play is just horrible its almost as he himself thought of her as a joke!Ithink its sad he felt that people had to see this play degrading Marilyn!

Your welcome for the photos,we need to kick off this thread it has only 16 pages!

Marilyn Monroe and her Husbands!

I saw that some of you were talking about Marilyn Monroe and her influence on other celebs.I think that she influenced a lot of people and not just after her death.Marilyn was imitated even when she was alive.I look at it this way:she was the original and others were/are a copy! And by no means its the same thing-it never is!

There was Jayne Mansfield the best copy of them all she almost had world belived that they havent seen anything like her before!Yep she was good. But not that good!
Then there was Mamie Van Doren who with her behaviour showed the world how classy real Marilyn really was.Not an easy thing, because all the people thought about her as a sex symbol over serious actress.
Mamie was a low rent Marilyn(terrifaying she still is),a fact even she aknowledged.
Jacqueline Kennedy,no she didnt dress like her.Yes she was imitading her when she gave a Tv tour of the newly decorated White House.Who ever saw that video knows what i am talking about! She talked in Monroe voice.Even her friends said it was shocking and that she never tallked like that before!
Of course we had male impersonators far before it became "in" and popular with the stars like Cher and Diana Ross!
I am amazed how todays celebrites shameslly admit copying Marilyn! We have legions of celebrites doing a "Marilyn role".Madonna certinaly broth it to an edge with her Marilyn period.Doing a video(material girl),a Parodie(SNL),dressing(singing dressed as Marilyn at the oscars) and going even further with Marilyn fascination(dating John F. Kennedy Jr.).Madonna gave as the most vulgar Marilyn there ever was, definetly going too far!
Then we have a woman that you would not connect to Marilyn imidiately.Mariah Carey!
Careys obssesion with Marilyn is well,an obssesion. She belives in her Marilyn the hardest of them all.Mariah went to Kosovo to sing to soldiers.Landing with helicoptere dressed in a military suit(familiar?).She even sanged to them in a Marilyn-esque dress!
Then there was her video for song "Someday"(in wich she was dressed like Marilyn when she sang to soldiers, she even had the same earings!)She has a room in her penthouse completly dedicated to Marilyn(a grown woman in her late 30s).Then there is a video for "Never To Far" in wich she is wearing identical dress as Marilyns(happy birthday mr president). Her fasciantion with Monroe went so far that in June 1999 at Christies M.Monroe possesions auticon she payed 600.000$ for Marilyns white baby grand piano plus other little items.
Next up is Gwen Stefani.Who in my opinion took the best Marilyn qualites(blonde hair/hairstyles and make up)and made it completly her own with keeping her life, avoiding too obvious imitaion.Well done!
Britney Spears tryed she really did with the hair, make up,photos, comments but the girl achieved every imitation nightmare-looking like a clown!Christina Aguilera took it so far(specially in a make up department)that refference to a clown is an uderstatment!
Of course there is Lindsay Lohan all time Marilyn additct.First she dyed her hair blonde and then she posed like Marilyn(The Santa Monica beach photos)for Vanity Fair.
We had Jennifer Lopez in a In style magazine spread like the Marilyns(naked wrapped in white sheets photos).
Renee Zellweger wanted to make a movie.
And then the horror of all Marilyn horrors PARIS HILTON(that name is all i need to mention).
Of course not all fascinations are bad there was Catherine Deneuve who is a fan of Monroes since she was a little girl. And admitted, that she wanted to adveritse Chanel No.5 because of Marilyn(and to this day says she is her favourite actress). She never needed to dress or act like Marilyn.
The same thing with Nicole Kidman who said she always associated Chanel No.5 with Marilyn Monroe and thats why she loved it!She dyed her hair blonde but thats it
.So many more of other Hollywood starlets are playing the Marilyn role.A problem is when they dont know where to stop,so it ends up in my opinion, damaging Marilyns reputation specially with the younger generations!Imitation is flattering but only to a point where it dosent transcend into parody. And we all know and have seen that the line is very thin! How thin? Here is Charlize Theron and others who show as the best!

I've been her fan since I was nine. And I would call her sick. Depression is an illness. Drug/alcohol addiction is an illness. If you're telling the truth, why is that like making a joke of her? I'm sure she was a very good, nice, intelligent, fragile, funny and misunderstanded person, but she wasn't a saint.

And you're right, it's a crime this thread is only 16 pages! Thank you for your beautiful ,good quality photos, I really appreciate the effort you're making :flower: :flower: :flower:

Those pictures of Charlize & co doing the Marilyn act...horrible. You're right with your post about celebrities copying her. Dying your hair blonde and liking Marilyn is ok, but don't try to be Marilyn or live her life.

On the other hand, Marilyn herself copied the original Blonde Bombshell, Jean Harlow. But then again, she didn't do it in a tacky way, and was her own person.

Exactly, you can copy someone but you dont need to morph into them! Its wrong! Some people find it easyear living other peoples life! And i agree she did copy Jean Harlow she was her fan since a little girl. But she turned a copy into original.Marilyn waas once asked to play Jean Harlow. But she was horrifed with the proposition and turned it down.So i think she would be horrifed with all the movies Hollywood did about her life. Not even one was good!
I know she was sick but i hate that word i prefer troblled!
Hey what do you think about Jean Harlow!I never liked her,saw a lot of her movies and i think she was horrible actress completly without talent. But she had that factor-x!

Marilyn!

Lovely pics again

I haven't, unfortunately, seen any films of Jean Harlow (stupid me), but I like the things I've heard---can't say anything about talent though. She did posess the X-factor, I agree.

There's this absolutely beautiful poem/writing written about Marilyn (titled something like: To say "Marilyn" instead of "a woman", if I translate it straight from Finnish)...I can try to find it. Has anyone, btw, posted the poems she wrote herself here? I can post those too.
