At Dior, the designs, while well executed, didnt create new silhouettes or meaningful evolution to the house codes. This created an opening for more commercially-minded creative directors like Maria Grazia Chiuri, whose appointment made strategic sense from a business perspective...If we are doing nothing new it might as well have broad appeal.

Really? Her debut Carven show was extremely weak IMO. And her experience : Lacoste and Joseph? Matthieu had a stellar resume before being appointed to Bottega? Is there not anyone out there with equivalent experience?

The Miu Miu / Prada bunch seem a lot more attractive as potential Artistic Directors for Bottega Veneta...

She is such a random person, her CV is okeish but c’mon, it’s gonna be boring as f*ck. I’d LOVE to see there Fabio but that’s not gonna happen so Vitale (Miu Miu guy) would be great choice: he is creative and makes desirable accessories and his tenure is great.

I loved her Joseph. Agree her Carven is weak but still enjoyable. I hope if she does get BV, she could inject some actual playfulness than the forced tongue-in-cheek than Blazy (a leather Richard Scarry book?).

You are assuming Kering had a lot of choices.

That’s a very fair point but Bottega Veneta probably as the only one House from Kering is really * cool * and, with right salary and team (which both are good) can attract lots of potential talents wanting to be CD for the first time. As we can see it can get you as far as Chanel so I can totally see Vitale being there for 3-6 years and then heading off to Hermes etc.

If it wasn't for Kering's notoriously messy management, this wouldn't be the case as lots of their brands are highly esteemed names in their own right.

I'd argue that Balenciaga and McQueen could live off young designers doing their thing and BV and YSL can thrive happily off a CD whose skills are more specialised, but Gucci really needs an pre-established designer, preferably one with previous experience of leading a coporate brand.

To be honest, it would work. Hiring Hedi to take over a brand is, in my mind, like sending your hellish kid who won't behave to boot camp and most times when they come back, they've straightened up and are respectable. Quite frankly Gucci is that bad**s kid that could maybe benefit from some time with Drill Sergeant Hedi lol

And it’s not against them but it’s logical for me that Chanel would want a current voice in fashion instead of people who haven’t produced work in years or whom names are attached to their direct competitor.

I’m actually happy that the people at Chanel are not consumed by nostalgia! Things have to move forward!

HEDI would have been the best choice for CHANEL, but they went for the safest one with Blazy. Nothing will change at Chanel….
