Matthieu Blazy - Designer, Creative Director of Chanel

View attachment 1333648
The only scene I can still remember after many years.
the first HC show is still one of his best shows ever and really helped Dior to become modern...at minimum i can hope something like that for the new Chanel ....we all know the other dior raf years were meh!! or confusing mind circle j..rk offs

i share your truth , even if some places its less more of the typical things you find at any office type stuff and at most places its unacceptable behaviors on many levels how people are dealing with each other and all the dirty games from top management to HR to Managers and directors and creative directors etc are pitting lower placed staff against each other with games and lies and mistreatment etc

some friends i just avoid to ask them how its going to just not hear another crazy new story or issue that happened.

how much of greed, animosity, competition and spite and pollution etc should go into production of clothes and acc and image for people to dream and love or be inspired by or buy into....its a odd this ......

for a business that creates beauty why is there so much ugliness behind it i often ask myself
I think it’s like that everywhere though… it’s human nature. People are terrible, and if you consider that 90% of the population is not very smart, there you have it. They don’t even make an effort and sometimes don’t even think what they are doing is bad.

Also, fashion is full of “neglected” people that were never successful socially and that didn’t fit in. That creates lot of trauma and ugly behaviors…

Nevertheless, I met worse people in design than in management.

Yeah, this is so true. Most people are awful and dumb. I don't work in fashion, but I see the same things. It's human nature, with the creative industries being especially driven by emotion, ego, and status.

Fashion is also one of the few industry where from the creative stand point, there’s almost no separation between life and work.
A lot of people involved in the creative field of fashion have been obsessed about it since their childhood. It’s a life of passion but also hardwork, it’s a life where your personal interest outside of your day to day work somehow can have an impact on your work.

So there’s something very intense in the design teams that you don’t find elsewhere.

I don’t know if it’s still the case but there was also the same kind of vibe in the advertising world. The creatives in that world lived a very intense lifestyle and their industry was as competitive as fashion.

And while fashion has that thing between idea and skills, in that world, you are almost as good as your last idea.

There’s a kind of pragmatism in management that makes the whole thing less « deep ».

Tbh, I was like that as well, having a passion for fashion since I was like 0 and I basically think about it 24h out of 24, but that never made me a b!tch with people. In fashion most of the people working are gay guys with big traumas in their backs (which is normal), but most of them didn’t know how to manage their frustrations and pay it with the people around… I see that a lot. People that were bullied, once they feel “respected” they can be the worst human beings ever. Out of their fields they are still that bullied kid though…

In management many people are straight, fashion is just a job for them, they dont really care about it, they have other issues… although sometimes there are, like everywhere, very silly people with lots of ambition, and someone silly with ambition is a terrible combo as well.

Karl would say something like "oh you have nothing to do that you have to think about me? Its been years, you need to find other things to do" and he would judge us and think we are boring.

The sight of Raf Simons in this context sets my blood to a simmering boil.

I do not join these real battles on the legitimacy of the nomination ahaha. My biggest doubts concern his aesthetics and his editorial choices. Models, photographers, campaigns, scenography for shows, styling of collections etc.
From what we have discerned, he wont have responsibility for models, photographers, campaigns, or scenography. Lena has or intends to appoint individuals to oversee each aspect of these endeavors. Chanel shall evolve into a well-structured bureaucracy, ensuring the brand's preservation during this extended transitional era. Lena is going to make it almost impossible to create pieces that do not adhere to Chanel's code.

Given this, I am inclined to believe we shall witness reimaginings of both Gabrielle's and Karl Otto's designs, artisan-rendered in innovative, modern materials.

I eagerly anticipate Hedi Slimane at Christian Dior, it will elevate the house to the zenith of worldwide prominence, unseating Chanel from its long held position.

Hedi is the spiritual successor to Karl Lagerfeld and unquestionably the King of Fashion now.

Exciting things are happening.

I agree.
That being said I made a general statement and I’m not sure why it’s being discussed on Blazy’s thread because I have only heard fabulous things about him. The same for Lee despite his behavior, he wasn’t ever described as a terrible person (some personalities mesh more than others).

I think for years and for the bad reasons, being mean was seen as having a strong personality. And in fashion there’s sometimes this blur between being mean, being tough and being demanding.

And yes, there’s this attitude from men in fashion that can be mean girl-ish, very highschool that is also encouraged by « Le théâtre de la mode ». And those are the same persons who worship diva behaviors from models and editors.

But tbh, what I have always found fascinating was that, it was rarely ever the designer but more the design assistants.
I think about a designer who worked in the studio of a very very important designer. There were stories that he was quite mean. It turned out that he was mean to a young assistant who was supported by the very important designer/CD.
The irony is that the assistant is forgotten today while the assistant is a very successful jewelry and accessories designer.
So Karma works against some people lol.

At Chanel, a lot of things are internal anyway from the Casting Director to the Set designer. The fashion side has it own Art direction and things like that.

So yes, Matthieu Blazy will be responsible to everything fashion at Chanel from the moment he officially takes his position. And his power will grow after renewal and with the whole generational change too.

And once again, you are giving too much power to Leena Nair. Blazy will work closely with Pavlovsky who btw has a personal relationship with Weirthemer.

And Chanel has others entities and others issues that Nair has to handle besides the CD of fashion. The CD of the Jewelry operation died last month for example. A more permanent situation has to be handle for the beauty side even more with Simona Cattaneo taking over soon…

Oh my god, does this mean we could continue with Inez & Vinoodh and Loli Bahia? I honestly hope not.

I prefer boring inez and Loli than those dry BV campaigns/images with tweed suits...
