Matthieu Blazy - Designer, Creative Director of Chanel

I really wish the jacket was anything but red white and blue. It’s just so patriotic.

But yeah, it really was a pleasant watch. The sped up bits are ridiculous and got a real laugh out of me. The whole thing reminds me a lot of Run Lola Run if anyone’s seen it.

Omg that video is so bad. So corny, kind of cringe and completely out of touch. CHANEL was never meant to be a "relatable" brand and will never be. Anyone who can afford to splurge on a 10k CHANEL tweed jacket wouldn't be caught dead taking a subway, they'd either get a taxy or a Uber.
Don't let me start on the mercenary couple RiRi and Asap, at this point they would accept a sponsorship even from Shein, it's very off putting and just...tacky.

I'm not too mad at it, because the combination can be recontextualised (France, UK, Netherlands, etc), but personally, I would've gone for a slate grey or a minty green like aged copper.

To add a little bit more of chaos to the conversation, may I say that I like this? 🤭
So much better than the absolutely mediocre previous lookbook.
Sure it has more modernity in the photography light and poses and remixed styling that we are used that all the phoebe offsprings have.
He selected the parts that fit with what he knows and did his usual rolled up sleeves and pup collar etc

Let's talk 4-5 lookbooks in/further and see how much enthusiasm there is still :)

Discussion is chaos, embrace it because there is light after the tunnel.

yeah definitely, with the pattern it reads more UK to me anyway. It’s not even bad to look at but I just wonder why this combo, it’s not like it’s an insignificant or coincidental one. Maybe the show will provide an answer🤷🏾‍♀️

exactly the apartment as well even if it was of the boyfriend in his 8k silk chanel pj´s
and the stop motion of the artist /director Michel Gondry is not done refined enough to make it off set the grittiness of the locations nor the gritty supreme wannabe lighting chosen.

wtf was that double layer night slip dress again !!?

I don't care if it outsiders art and he keep forcing this belgium sober wood furniture aesthetics or interiors he did at BV ads as well.

also comments are funny that say: they passed the east river to get from bowery to astor place tho Im confused ......because geographically it did not make sense 🤭 sure its fantasy just like all of Blazy´s non existing narrative narratives🤦‍♀️

another comment : I’ve have never seen a girl “in Chanel” at the subway 😂

oh fun times ahead

Whatever, the video is rather corny. The stop motion gimmick would work if the film were styled on the silent cinema. The modern aesthetic makes it look like a goofy parody from vine. At this point I am just happy it's not another b&w teaser by Sadli or I&V, but it's like choosing hiv over cholera.

the last bit is harshhh omg😭.

I don’t like the jacket as I have stated when the paparazzi shots were released.
I don’t necessarily get the film but I like the fact that he worked with Michel Gondry.

Since JPG is not active anymore, this is the closest I guess to this kind of universe. It’s certainly refreshing.

I wish the looks chosen reflected more the whimsical nature of the film.

I take the subway and I have a lot of Chanel jackets…
I know a lot of women who takes the subway with designer clothes and who don’t work in fashion.
Sometimes, it’s just more convenient to take the subway from point A to point B when there’s an insane traffic…
Just saying.

I don’t like the jacket but I think, worn one over a crewneck white tshirt, it would have looked fresher. There’s a kind of formality in the styling that on her, makes it look old-fashioned.

why not? I wear Chanel and take the subway.
The most valuable thing in the world is time. Subway is the fastest in most cases.
But the outfits were so ugly they hurt my eyes.

of course around the world women and men with luxury rtw or acc do take public transport :) but i think the feeling is more nuanced that the quick knee jerk comment of the tube x chanel girl /woman :
like i think if the apartment was more to the chanel client level taking the subway would be the realistic balance but it's all in a environment of a young couple starting out in the big city which is more far fetched and disconnected to have both in head to toes Chanel.
(if it was tokey ok small apartment and lots of designer stuff is more realistic like the Happy Victims by Kyoichi Tsuzuki series:)
chanel tokyo.jpeg

over all the vid to me shows lack of refinement in concept and world building the pulling of the suit is also bad you see parts at the leg already falling apart before the effects takes place ...thing being on set you would retake with the chanel budget its just not an excuse even if talent was only available for a short amount of hours.

its a 19 billion euro a year turnover company not a side art project :)

I'm puzzled. It feels so...infantile? Neither sophisticated nor alluring in any way.
Then again, I'm not a fan of Michel Gondry, and this feels like 2005 all over again, but not in a good way.

And ASAP Rocky? Choosing him as a brand ambassador is another uninspired decision I just don’t understand.

Brand and world-building are so important to get right, especially for Chanel. They can get away with a lot if that part is at least executed well.
