Maximilian Davis - Designer, Creative Director of Ferragamo

^ yess but something tells me it was Gobetti behind that statement and with the family mess I’m not sure they’ll stand firmy behind MD.

He is not lucky, he has some talent and some good press, the issue is between the runway and what comes on the store floor: pricing, availability, merchandising, marketing etc etc ,
It's an executive failure, not helped by how the company is structured.

It has everything to do with luck LOOOL

There have been greater talents that have been unceremoniously dismissed, even ignored— while there have been much lesser talents that have been offered prominent roles (only to be discarded asap LOL). Maximillian would have never been offered such a plush lead had the pro-Black phenomenon not manifested during that period he was installed at the brand. Luck and timing: Some would even say they’re both the same. And if they mean what they say by still supporting him, he's beyond lucky to still have his job.

Glad he finally got the whole 90s highend department-store fodder out of the way, because his debut was awfully reductive. And he’s come quite a ways from his debut, finally showing some potential for a quiet, calm, confident brand of design that is worthy of gimmick-free/flash-free/flex-free refinement. Now he needs to steadily build upon that potential of refinement since there are no other high-profile brands actually offering refinement. And the marketing department actually needs talents that are able to develop a strong visual narrative that’s honourable to their (once) existing traditional customer, alongside inspiring an entire new generation of customers: It’s been such a witless clusterfcuk thus far— and that fragrance ad isn’t helping the brand’s flaccid image. This is a brand that isn’t going to be embraced by the 15-minutes-of-fame crowd— like Alessandro and Demna. And Maximillian isn’t the kind of personality that is the popular partygirl— like Alessandro and Demna. And trash the current logo design and bring back the OG logo. Such a simple move did wonders for Anthony’s mid SL. Take a hint.

all sums up his MET looks especially the one for Kylie failed to express a clear design voice again shows he jumps to referencing his fav designers all mixed up without creating his own distinct voice.

having Kylie wear something that could set his Ferragamo on the map for the younger hype crowd but he failed.

The biggest problem with Ferragamo is that its supposed to be about the footwear but the designs are mediocre. Those spikey heels look so uncomfortable! Not all heels need to be comfortable, of course! Look at some Louboutin, but "it" shoes of the past like Valentino rock studs, YSL (tribute), Daniel Lee BV era, Michele Gucci, etc, had statement shoes that women could at least walk in. Even the it shoes of recent, Alaia, Miu Miu Ballet flats, Tory Burch - all extremely walkable.

And then there are these which are classic Ferragamo

His most talked about design was the ss2025 ballet heel, but balletcore was 3 years ago.

They can do what ever they want but nothing gonna change until they lower the base pricing of at least 30%. It's a matter of brand recognition, you don't gain market share if you are a C-list brand with no Current cultural relevance and People can get similar designs by paying few hundreds more.

im sure the asian auntiies are willing and have the money to pay for the prices they are asking if only the designs were catered to them instead of this try-hard gen z thing he is doing. ferragamo has to compete with tods or the likes... not loewe again
