Mini Ipods

I'm considering the iPod mini and the iPod. I don't really think I need the extra space, but 1) I want that voice recording thing and 2) I want it in white 3) I also want it in green 4) I can't afford the full sized 5) I'll be able to afford it in about a month or two.

battery life

the old ipod minis are capable of getting 8 hours of play... I know someone who uses one for work (8 hr days minus 30 minute lunch break and a few 10 minute breaks) ALL day long, plus the walk to work and the skytrain ride. so you definately have a defective one, look into it ASAP!!

the new minis have an 18 hour battery life, which is insane...even if you think that is has say...4 hours less than they estimate, 14 hours is impressive as well...

Ive seen the old and new minis side by side, the colours are much more vibrant and make more of an impact!!! too bad they didnt come with colour screens like originally rumored.
ces't la vie! next year probably

Is something wrong with my ipod mini? I charged it last night and it says charge complete. But when I disconnected it from the cable and turned it on, it still only shows the battery is not even half full! I plugged it back again, and a minute later it says charge complete but it still shows half full. Is something wrong with it?

after you charge them it takes a while for the bar to go t full. Mine does anyway!!

thanks boho_babe! I realized that after like a half hour, the battery started slowly going up..

UGH!! They came out with a new Ipod Mini? Im really annoyed. AND ITS CHEAPER!!?! Good lord, I feel so outdated all of a sudden, let me try to block it out.

really good link to a review that delves deeper into the technical aspects of a musical player...some of which may go over the heads of the average consumer, but the people in this thread who have commented on the quality of sound from an ipod may find this interesting, and if not this article, at least the depth in which this website tests and rates all of the mp3 players it reviews.

the slide show is kinda nifty, too.
enjoy!

What do you guys think of the new colors? I'm hoping to get a blue/turquoise one. It's rather vivid, and at first I couldn't decide if I liked it or not, but it's definitely growing on me ^_^

I feel slightly betrayed about them fetching out the new mini ipods for some reason......

I am really thinking about buying a mini ipod in the turquoisey blue color... but I've always heard these rumors that it costs like 100 bucks to send the ipod back to apple if the battery goes bad! :( I really need an mp3 player... and all of the shapes and sizes of the ones that are at the same price (200) are all clunky.. or just ugly.

I didn't know that. It might be different in the UK.....

I just bought my ipod mini in pink 2 days ago. I was actually on a waiting list for it here in Chicago for a week!! I guess now the stores are saturated with them. Anyway, it does cost $100 to replace the battery. BUT if you get the insurance for 50.00 anything that breaks on the ipod is covered, plus 3 new batteries for 3 years. This is what I was told at Best Buy, so of course I bought the insurance. Apple offers the insurance also. What I did not know was that you need windows 2000 to sync your ipod. Now I have to upgrade my computer!

The colors are really vivid on the new minis. I actually like the old ipod colors better. My brother has the old version of green and I liked that better along with the old pink color. I can not wait until I can download music and use it!

Ipod repair info

taken directly from the apple website:

How much will my in-warranty service be?
Warranty service for eligible repairs is available at no charge for twelve months from the date of original retail purchase (”date of purchase”). If you have purchased the AppleCare Protection Plan, there will be no shipping and handling fee. A 39.95 CAD shipping and handling fee will apply to all warranty repairs performed six months after date of purchase.

iPod Out-of-warranty Battery Replacement Program
What is the iPod Battery Replacement Program?
If your iPod requires service only because the battery’s ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, Apple will replace your iPod for a service fee of 179.00 CAD, plus 10.77 CAD shipping. Be sure to follow all of the battery troubleshooting steps before submitting your iPod for battery replacement.

How much does it cost to participate in the program?
The program costs 179.00 CAD, plus 10.77 CAD shipping. The total program cost is 189.77 CAD per unit, plus any applicable taxes.

-so- IN-warranty Ipods cost only shipping for repairs, but out of warranty you are better off buying a new ipod. purchasing either best buy's ipod warranty or extended apple care should be a given for anyone purchasing an ipod. best buy is probably slightly better in this case (never thought Id say that) because of the high shipping costs even for units under extended applecare.

hope this helps everyone....
and FYI, the people at apple are awesome at answering inquiries really quickly if you have problems navigating their website or it doesn't answer a question properly

I like the gold color they had on the old mini, to bad it's not available anymore.

I know!!!!! I had my heart set on the gold. I was so mad when I found out that it is not longer available. I Love gold!! I settled for pink. I think the gold would have looked classy! Oh well...:(

i have the new pink one

Did anyone see the new Ipod shuffle tv ads? They're very brilliant!

Ipods are 129$ over here. Not that bad, I just might get it when they go on sale.

for those who prefer the old ipod mini colours, you can still get them... if you go to the store page on the apple US website, go to the bottom righthand corner where you will see 'save' and an icon talking about a 12 inch powerbook for sale. click on that, and you can still purchase the old ipod minis in green, pink or blue... sadly no gold.

quickest way to tell that these ARE the old ones is the fact that they ship with a firewire cable - which, stupidly enough, the new ones do not. shame on apple for that ....

and for us canadian consumers, you CAN'T buy the old ipods on the canadian page. fyi :flower:

Stupid question-but what is the firewire cable? Do I need to purchase one?

I think it's pretty much the same as an USB-cabel but it transfers data faster... You don't need to purchase one if you have a USB-cabel.
