Wow, it looks like Miuccia inversed the things this season with innocent, youthful Prada and mature, lady-like Miu Miu. What a brilliant move to close the season.
I'm already fascinated!
You beat me to the inversion point.
I was expecting MiuMiu to be more restrained. The 'switch' : the Prada woman being girly, the MiuMiu girl being more lady, resonates with what we've seen from many designers these last 4 weeks - adopting the identity of another, becoming one's opposite. Or at least donning the garb, the cloak and mask perhaps, of one's alterego.
The fantasy of reinvention, becoming other, is I suppose the essence of fashion. The self in flux, no fixed identity, constant movement.
Who therefore looks right as a Lady - the proposition is it can only be a girl. Hence the Prada/MiuMiu switch.
It's been a season about the Lady and her deconstruction via confronting her opposite - the girl, the gentleman, and at Louis Vuitton - the wh*re.
The directional designers are therefore looking like Christopher Kane and Proenza Schouler (and a word to the Kaiser) deconstructing Lady having been their story for SS11.
Of course that's only one story for the season, there are many other points in there, but it's perhaps the lead story. It's what leads the dowdy hemlines and sackish silhouettes sub plot.
Girl get dowdy, Lady get rowdy.
