I can't say I'm impressed but minus the shoes I like most of that collection. It's lovely, feminine and wearable.

i understand that muicia want to go safer with the shoes for miu miu after the prada show..but does the shoes have to be that safe and well...ugly?
i wonder if miucia got the inspiration for the bitten holes from finding mice in the studio...hehe.
i do like a few of the dresses in there but the others are kinda la di da..di da

maybe i was expecting too much
given the economic situation, i suppose it is wise to go safer than sorry

The shoes were so boring for Miu Miu. Usually they make some of the most interesting architectual artistic shoes.

Miuccia Prada had the honor of closing Paris Fashion Week on Sunday night. She ended with none other than her ever-so-fabulous Miu Miu collection. While indeed it was an honor to end Paris Fashion Week, imagine how stressful it was. She had to manage to keep the attention of hundreds of stressed out, over-worked editors and buyers. However, I was sure that Miuccia of all people could handle the pressure.

The show was a bit quirky and thought-provoking, thus managing to keep the attention of the stressed out crowd. Prada took a lot of her inspiration from the 1980's; however, unlike other designers who were also inspired by the 1980's she managed to get away from the glitz and glam and gave us something unexpected - graffiti art mixed with a hint of Japanese culture and pleats galore!

We saw really interesting layering techniques, if you really pay attention, you will notice that some of the layering and pleating techniques are quite similar to those of Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons. Nonetheless, they managed to look original and unlike many of Kawakubo's designs, they managed to look ULTRA feminine.

We saw really interesting sheaths, which felt wretched and broken-down yet managed to come off polished and again, feminine. However, hands down the most captivating pieces were the rich Roman mosaic prints; they were AMAZING - TO DIE!

Miuccia finds great charm and beauty in the European history, so if you noticed she used some great glossy, satin-like prints that were very reminiscent of the European classical era. She also gave reverence to the aristocrats, noblewoman and patricians of European culture with this sort of spray-painted "graffitied" effect of lips and splashes of pink on some of the dresses; it was like old school street graffiti made modern. I thought it was brilliant and a splendid way to end the week.

found it at the GAP, the serged seams are exposed.. lying outside than inside the shirt
etcetera
(so, weird she is doing this now)
i like how they look moth-eaten in some of these parts
and also with the addition of soft blurs

nice as a fabric
but on clothing not so sure. nice if it holds up

"It's an investigation of our history, of our European past." With that big idea in mind, Miuccia Prada sent out a focused collection of nipped-waist dresses, as well as tops and skirts in pleated burlap or silk, most of them layered with a low, hip-slung apron. Sometimes the fabrics were dotted with fraying holes, as if moths had descended and started munching en masse. Other times it looked as if spray-paint artists had gotten their hands on them, dipping the ridges of a pleated brown frock in a rusty red or scrawling graffiti squiggles across the front of a skirt.

The history part came in with prints that looked like painted Roman tiles; they magnified as the show progressed so that faces in profile eventually abstracted into random assemblages of square dots. They made for an interesting juxtaposition with the images on the walls of the Avenue Foch mansion, which provided a look at Miu Miu's own roots in the form of Warhol-esque screen prints of ad-campaign stars including Lindsay Lohan, Kim Basinger, and Kirsten Dunst (who was in the audience).

Prada's perforated tops and skirts last season have proved to be quite influential (witness all the laser-cut materials on Spring's runways). So—who knows?—maybe there's hope for bulky burlap and aprons. But in an uncertain future, the odds look better for the less-challenging and sexier silk numbers.

Um... if I know anything of art history I think the patterns in the collection (apart from the graffiti) are ancient Roman, not "African".
