Model skin & body care tips / products

Helena Christensen's advice is so true. I often bathe in warm baths with a mask on and then always ALWAYS rinse off in cool water.

And of course Carolyn Murphy is going to advertise something Estee Lauder, she probably has to in her contract with them.
Joelle Ciocco products are good, I've tried them, and so are the Young Living Essential oils but they're not for your face.

Oh P.S. St. Ives scrub is one of the worst products you can put on your skin. The granules are not round, they have jagged edges that are actually cutting your face.

See, I always have great luck with St. Ives. I learned to use it only once a week, but it makes my skin GLOW when I do. I rub very gently and rinse in cool water.

I randomly stumbled upon this, and I remembered this thread and thought I would share:

"At age 44, supermodel Carol Alt looks better than ever— so what’s her beauty secret?"

Let’s ask her.

"My body got younger and my face got younger," Carol said of her experience on the raw food diet. "It saved my life."

With these 5 delicious tips getting healthier and younger looking skin is as easy as making instant coffee.

EAT FRUITS FOR BREAKFAST
Did you know that while you sleep your body is detoxifying and cleansing out the waste material from previous day? This is very important for healthy skin as these toxins and waste material can cause acne and other skin problems.

Eating heavy breakfast in the morning forces your body to stop this cleansing process and to start digesting food.

Fresh, ripe fruits on the other hand require very little digestion. So eating a fruits in the morning gives your body few more hours to do the detox and repair work.

AVOID PROBLEMATIC FOOD COMBINATIONS
Different foods require different digestive juices and enzymes. For example, carbohydrates require alkaline digestive juices, while proteins require highly acidic juices.

When you eat proteins and carbohydrates at the same meal alkaline and acid neutralize each other and neither gets digested properly. Food just sits in the stomach for hours. The ever-present bacteria putrefy it and create more toxins and pollutants.

To keep things simple avoid eating two concentrated foods at the same meal. Concentrated foods are foods that have low water content. Concentrated foods are pretty much anything besides fresh fruits and vegetables.

An easy way to avoid wrong food combinations is to replace one concentrated food with salad or steamed/stir-fried vegetables. Try it, and your skin will thank you for it.

Fruits should always be eaten alone as they move through the stomach very quickly. But, if you eat them after concentrated foods, fruits can’t move through the stomach. They just sit in the stomach, and ferment rapidly.

EAT YOGHURT
Yogurt is the only dairy product that is good for your skin. During the fermentation process the probiotic bacteria make it easily digestible. The probiotic bacteria in yogurt are also very important for healthy, radiant skin because they improve the immune system and kill bacteria that cause acne and other skin problems.

Avoid any yogurts sold at supermarkets. In most cases they contain no live bacteria and are practically useless. Make sure that the yogurt you eat is made of organic milk and is pasteurized before the probiotic bacteria is cultivated. Ask your local health store for recommendations.

GREEN SMOOTHIES
Green smoothies are amazing skin food. Green smoothies come loaded with antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and other micro-nutrients that your skin requires to be healthy and look young.

Green smoothies are nothing but fruit smoothies with some green, leafy vegetables blended in. I understand that this may not be the most appealing combination, but here’s the trick. Always use at least 60% fruits and green smoothies taste as good as fruit smoothies do. Here’s one combination to try; bananas, frozen blueberries and spinach or kale with little water.

REPLACE GRAINS WITH SPROUTED GRAINS
Did you know that grains (like wheat) are extremely difficult for humans to digest? Eating too many grain products causes constipation, which is directly linked to acne and other skin and health problems.

The healthiest solution would be to stop eating anything made of grains. The next best option is to use sprouted grains. Sprouting makes grains much easier to digest and negates many of the health problems. Ask your local health store for bread and pasta made of sprouted grains.

BEAUTIFUL SKIN IS NOT JUST SKIN DEEP
Beautiful skin is a reflection of a healthy and well functioning body. Practically all skin problems, like acne, eczema, rashes, dryness, etc..., have their roots at imbalances in the body. By eating and living healthy you begin to correct the imbalances and your skin regains the healthy, beautiful glow.

However if you have moderate to severe acne or other difficult skin problems simple dietary treatment may not be enough. Persistent or severe skin problems usually require more complete treatment.

 This is very good advice. I've been drinking green smoothies, eating yogurt, and keeping my diet clean already, so it's nice to see a supermodel is doing the exact same thing! I looked up more information on Carol Alt (I've never heard of her before) and it turns out she's a big advocate of raw foods and a healthy diet & lifestyle. I'm glad she's promoting this kind of stuff because there aren't very many models that do, and so many young, impressionable girls want to be like them; finally here's one who can set a good example.

She's gorgeous!

She has a good point about being careful about the yogurt you pick. While it is advertised as being good for you be sure to look at the ingredients. Some of the most 'healthy' advertised yogurts are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup- a fact I was horrified to find out! Great post-thanks!

Yep, it's certainly helped! My skin looks better when I eat fresh foods and avoid junk or processed foods--it looks more glowy and less oily. I also feel better overall because I'm actually getting the nutrients I need to function. I found out I'm really deficient in important things like magnesium, zinc, and iron, so I've decided to take supplements. (I could just eat red meat but it'd never be enough to get it all every day.) My dark circles have been eradicated!
I have yet to avoid grains and gluten, though, but I think I might start doing that in a bit, just to see if I'm gluten intolerant.

I used to eat yogurt like Yoplait and Dannon, but now I just eat organic, hormone-free plain yogurt, and I love it. I get the full-fat version because I like eating the yogurt as snacks and it helps me feel fuller, so I don't overeat and gain weight. :) Plus, it's a good probiotic source. I used to take antibiotics for acne, so this helps restore the good bacteria.

I'm going to have try out having fruit by itself in the morning, even though then I can have raspberries in my cereal. Does anyone know if Fage Greek yogurt has any live bacteria? I'm pretty sure I bought it in the first place because I heard it was better for getting good bacteria than the regular supermarket yogurts, even though either way I love it, but I'd like to know if it does actually have it.

I would die if I could eat fruit only for breakfast. I'd pass out after riding my bike half a km.

It's not that you only have fruit. It's that you eat it by itself first then 30 minutes later, the rest of the breakfast even though that could be inconvenient depending on when someone has to go to work or school.

I've never heard of Fage Greek, but i looked up their yogurt product on their site and it says they do contain live, active cultures (particularlyL.Bulgaricus, S.Thermophilus).

I personally like Mountain High (
L. acidophilus, B. bifidus, and L. casei).

I don't really believe the thing about the fruit and breakfast thing in the morning. I just eat whatever fills me up accompanied with some fruit. It shouldn't be a problem, especially if you chew slowly. Heh, remember in grade school they'd tell us, "Digestion begins in the mouth!"

And to the_ida and other people who exercise in the morning, just keep doing your regular routine... it's not a big deal. Eat whatever you need to give you the energy to exercise; you know your body best. You could always just eat the fruit afterward, especially since that's when your body is more sensitive to insulin and needs the sugar it uses up during the exercise.

Don't even think about it. Fruits are the best because they are carbs and they are high in fibres. I think that people tend to think that fruits are not actual food. Which is 100% wrong. You will get more energy from fruits than from a double hamburger and fries.

But i think it's better to eat also some cereal with milk. :flower:

Not all greek yogurts (even all the fage ones) contain live active cultures. If they do, they write it on the cup. So remember to check it.

Oh and something else, always eat plain 2% yogurt. It's 100% pure and healthy.

this might be a strange question but i always see pictures of models with REALLY glowing skin
can anyone recommend some product(s) which will give me that 'same' result? a little glow is already enough, i don't want to look all greasy :rolleyes:

Best thing: Highlighting. You can use almost anything, and just apply on the areas you want that glow (mostly just above the cheekbones, bridge and tip of your nose, chin and lightly on the forehead. Just don't apply too much).

I usually use:
  • Estee Lauder's Pure Pops Cream Eyeshadow (Golden Seduction). Sadly i can't find it anymore since it was limited edition. It is perfect for my complexion.
  • Calvin Klein's Liquid Crystals (Sunstone)
  • Bobbi Brown's Shimmer Bricks (Sandstone)
You can also use illuminators, such as blanc universel de Chanel, after you applied make up or before. And of course MAC's Strobe Cream as Tushka_BeLLa already pointed out:

^^^ Mix MAC Strobe Cream into your foundation.

You can search for illuminators/highlighters and find the ones that suit you best. Other well known products are Benefit's Moon Beam and High Beam.

I know for a fact that I cannot survive for 5 minutes without two bowles of oatmeal (or something similar) in the morning. If I don't feel full in the morning, then I feel lightheaded and dizzy for the rest of the day.

And also - spray a fine mist of water or toner on your face after applying makeup. It helps the makeup settle, and your skin look poreless. I used to steal BF's Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner, it was so great...but then he ran out, wonder why :innocent:

Edit: I remember reading somewhere that lightly dabbing a mousturizing masque on cheekbones and other places to be highlighted is great for day - nice sheen, no shimmer.

Does it actually work? Doesn't it mess your make up?

Make skin poreless?!?! SIGN ME IN!!!:woot::lol:

I should try it then. I have the Evian Brumisateur:heart:!

Actually, fruits, if eaten alone, only take a matter of minutes to digest, and though the sugar found within fruits is natural and unrefined, eating only fruit in the morning will not stabalize your blood sugar. The fruit will give you a spurt of energy upon consumption, but shortly thereafter will leave you hungry, and unless followed up by a breakfrast primarily comprised of protein, your blood sugar/insulin levels will be unstabalized throughout the day, and you will more likely than not suffer the consequences at one point or other, in one form or other.

And though it is best to fill your stomach in the morning, while oatmeal might do that trick, it will also not help to stabalize your blood sugar levels, and will certainly do little for your energy levels!!! The best thing is to eat fruit first thing in the morning, which will digest instantly, fill your body with vitamins and enzymes (it is important not to eat right away upon waking up as the body is still in 'repair/digestive/detoxifying' mode from sleep), and a little while later consume a good form of protein. It will do wonders for you;)

You should just spray lightly, and then let it dry. The Evian Brumisateur should work just fine, I had a similar product from Vichy that worked quite well.
I'm thinking of buying Fix+ from MAC..

Same here! For me, it's because I don't have enough iron so I take iron tablets in the morning. I also have a bowl of Kashi which helps because it has a lot of protein and fiber.

I spritz my face befroe and after applying make up (I use a powder) and it sets it WONDERFULLY and leave my skin looking flawless and almost airbrushed.
