^Uh, the concept of the thread is that you don't always get what you pay for. (i.e. $1600 jeans from Chanel, $42,000 bags from LV, etc.)

1600 for a chanel jeans? that is by far more than ridiculous!!!

most OVERPRICED.......and by a few laps are the trio at COMME des GARCONS ........in her latest "collaboration " or as the CDG blurp said.....designed with VISVIM in mind .....with ViSVIM a shirt cost alost USD 1000 .......and if you remember the TAO CDG collection of two seasons ago.......with the tie dyes....a stole [ which looked in reality like a rag ...was around usd 2000.......heck...CDG is going overboard .......

thats too much.. i bought spme CDG very cool just around 90 dollars in italy.. its ya go to the 5th envenue.. your prob caur the rents there is expensive too.. and ya have to pay for all additional cost!!!

To me, I'd say Hermes because the price is too high (RM 35000.00 for a georgette skirt, what?) and for celeb-run lable, it has to be L.A.M.B. I know why.... because she's using too much cashmere and Egyptian cotton in her collection so no wonder you've to pay at least $65 for her simple tee. Worth buying
Another one, Chanel. Two seasons back my eyes nearly popped up when they sold a black sequined pencil skirt for RM 210 000.00 or about $62 000.00! :o with that sum of money I can buy a brand new house

it's funny because chanel and hermes are some of the fashion houses i'd never say are too overprized when it comes to "serious" stuff... (of course 500$ teddy bears and dont-wanna-know-how-much footballs belong to the non-serious cathegory)

i just think that a chanel skirt or an hermes croc bag deserve so much credit for their savoir-faire, their tradition, a whole legacy that has to do with quality and the best attentions to clients... all the tiny details that make a whole outfit look perfect and unique.

i actually wasn't that surprised when i saw it in the stores.. the prices were steep yes, but tie & dye can only be done by hand and it's quite time consuming..

and i thought it looked lovely:heart:

^so agree. especially so with the effects she did them. it wasn't one's generic, hippy crap...

It doesn't matter if you have the money for the clothing or are a fashion addict, designers overprice because they are selling a business. They know they're people out there who will buy it too. Imagine being able to own a popular fashion house, if you know someone will pay 50,000.00 for a dress, you'll charge it.

Fine clothing is worth the money. Tailoring, feeling, what it's made of, etc.

But a cotton T or blouse, neh.

They're laughing all the way to the bank, fashion is an art and a BUSINESS. =) Think before you buy.

I think fashion addicts are the ones who buy the ridiculously overpriced stuff. It's an expensive addiction too.
If you have a brain, you can see what is worth the money and what they are testing people with. If people buy the 20,000 jeans, then they(designers) know they can do it. If people don't buy them, then they know they've gone too far. Limits and testing = business/economy.

A lot of designers will overprice once in awhile and it's us the buyers to say no, we rule the pricing not them. So stop buying overpriced clothing and they'll drop the price. EX. Clearance and sales.

Exactly. I always look for;
Fabric/leather/feeling,
The all around look, styling, art of the bag,
quality,
and how long it can last me.

A furry, medium sized LV logo bag with a little leather is not worth as much as a bmw.

its very easy to understand.. when the number of customers limited, they should put the price higher to balance the cost.. it is not to my biggest surprise when i saw these price... thats business!!

I don't think particular designers are overpriced- rather, each designer has certain ITEMS which are overpriced

At the end of the day I'd say 50% percent of all the overpriced or premium are not worth the dough. You can look expensive and exclusive by buying normal priced clothes.

I have seen picture of some "brand whores"*no names mentioned* outfits here on TFS. These people post their $1000-$3000 outfits here and when I see them I almost start laughing at how much money they have spent and failed miserably at looking fabulous.

sure.. its not worth but if yu ahve too much money and dunno what to do so that could be a luxurious hobby:-P

i just randomly remembered that!

Comme is pretty sick, yes.. Almost every item i've seen in store from comme or junya has been on 70% off..

You btw don't -always- get what you pay for. does anyone remember extremely tacky brand "Von Dutch"? friend of mine tried one a t-shirt, retailed for 120$ i think, and it ripped. it was her size and everything, but really crappy quality. (but who would wnant to wear a von dutch tee in the first place?)

belgian designer stuffs have gr8 quality and design... but a brand besomes commercial when they wann expand and the quality goes down!

Chloe... ohmygod, how can this super-tiny thing be 670 GBP, or approx 1340$??
