Most Overpriced Designer? #1

jsut because i like all the creative process behind those, there's an heritage, a "savoir-faire" after all, they represent something more than what the tacky-dsquared-D&G-cavalli-gang does.

I think that Versace is overpriced for what it offers :smile:innocent:smile: but the MOST ridiculously expensive designer is Balenciaga :cry::(. I mean the jackets from the fall/winter (07/08) collection look like a rip off of the Chanel tweed jacket - and get this - its more expensive!!!

I mean COME ON! Since when is the knock-off cheaper than the original?!

* AND the dress from fall/winter 06, the one that Sasha P. is wearing, I read was something like $130,000 !!!!!!!!!!!! OH. MY. GOD. That is just ABSURD! Who is going to pay that much money - I mean - not even a freaking museum could justify buying ONE dress for $130,000 :ninja::innocent: - so how could one woman justify paying that much?

Although far from obscene, I think Louis Vuitton, especially the clothes, are significantly overpriced.

On a similar note, are there any underpriced designers? The smaller guys with great products but without the household brand name and therefore without the much deserved recogntion.

Kuba: It's not ridiculous, actually a LOT of people earn FAR more than eur 1 000 000 a year, especially in Russia, India, Arabic Countries, and now, soon China, Singapore, Hong-Kong, Taiwan.
I've seen, in Europe, especially in Switzerland, Luxembourg, or Liechtensein, women spending 1 000 000 as if you or I were spending 100! There's always a market, for the haute-couture/expensive clothing. Same with the jewels: who buys a 200 K Chaumet tiara? Who buys a 1 000 K french francs Patek Philippe watch? A lot of people, discreet people, but living ones.

Ulfee: Dries Van Noten. But I like his pricing. And the quality is not bad (far superior than some brands that charges the double of his prices)

mhn i think there are loads of rich ppl in HK the same like in Germany i amy say or even more.. Taiwan is more or less Italy they do have loads of money and ready to spend.. btw they have very very low tax.. not like here..

dries is kewl i like him too but loads o his tsuffs are made in turkey estern europe ect

Sometimes there are some shockingly low prices on top designer's items. Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Kenzo come to mind.

^^ not a "designer" really but my tailor is so underprized!! this guy cuts my shirts and suits like God!! amazing! and he is so unepensive, i sometimes feel even bad about it, but you can't really tip your tailor, can you? would that be offensive?

i wouldn't tip him if i were you, no..

I btw agree with ilaughead, i'm often surprised of the JPG-prices

Juicy Couture, if that is considered designer. I have like 3 of their zipups, all of which have broken, I had a bowler bag, broke. And it's sad because I know they aren't super expensive, but Forever 21 has the same quality material for a lot less!

absoutely agree with Balenciaga! The first dress from Fall 2007 for 25,000$?!

Um...the Olsen twins and Oprah are worth a BILLION dollars each, respectively - I could go on and on about how many people are wealthy and justify their expenses.

That doesn't change the fact that Balenciaga, and their $130,000 dress is overpriced. Just because its relative to some peoples income does not make it any less affordable. The fact of the matter is that $130,000 to spend on a SINGLE dress is ludicrous and no matter how you put it into context - its just absurd.

Its not meant for us though is it, it is designed to make money out of the 'have yachts'

I have a few clients who are millionaires, but they still dress their kids in George (Asda Walmart). I think whereas ready to wear used to be aimed at the well off, now it seems to be targeted at the loaded. Prices have gone way, way up beyond inflation, IMO.

If you are well off and live in London, as the article says, theres nothing left after mortgage and school fees!

Zac Posen
Louis Vuitton

Like the article I linked to says, there are now more super rich elite than ever before, it doesn't matter to them whether a dress is $200 or $2000, they can afford it. Most of the big designer brands belong to public companies with shareholders to satisfy, is there any wonder that they have decided to put their ready to wear prices up massively so they can make money out of these people?
For me it's a shame though. I once might be able to afford a lovely designer piece if I saved up for it. Now most of it is totally out of my league, or so high priced it almost feels immoral to spend that much on a dress.

What about Bijan? His necktie is $200 a pop and only sold at his Rodeo Drive boutique that requires you to set up an appointment if you want to shop there ...

Balenciaga
Louis Vuitton
Prada

ps.: here in brazil you can't buy a Vuitton bag for less than 10,000 reais (5,000 dollars)
