It is overpriced also if it is a Demi-Couture piece and Chanel.
71,800,00 euro!!! Can imagine 40 ,000 because of Demi-couture.. but at least it is not a leather or vison , Denim by Chanel.

I don't find it overpriced at all. You're paying for the prestige of the brand and the craftmanship. This is the closest thing to Couture. And Chanel metiers-d'arts collections are made by Lessage, Lemarié...Etc.

Usually at Chanel the runway collections are the most expensive ones, the Métiers D'Arts being the most expensive as a whole.


I've heard that Chanel's business is now drive by the fashion instead of the beauty (that's why they launched the Gabrielle perfume). Considering the prices of their clothes and bags (the rocket back cost more than 10 000£), i can totally understand why.

Ugh, that Saint Laurent monstrosity looks like it came straight out of the Flinstones, or Conan The Barbarian Haute Couture. The way the bottom is cut makes want to throw up.

Can tFS experts chime in? Is it because the feathers are hand-embroidered onto the leather? Is it because there are tons of them? Is $100K a good price to look like an extinct avian species?

It's funny, when you look at most of these 5-figure clothes, they basically look like things that would look completely ridiculous to wear a season or so after. Then again, the customer that these clothes are aimed at, they buy it as if it was Zara, and dispose of it as quickly as your regular Zara customer would.

maybe the brand didn't expect anyone would actually buy it. so they just bump up the price to show brand's high-level identification, and if, any super rich ppl did buy it, it is just a surprising bonus

That's true. Saint Laurent is very of the moment, it won't age well. The woman that buys it will dig through her closet one day and regret it. Your better off buying actual Haute Couture.

Haute Couture is very unattainable, though - only a select group of women have access to it. So for the nouveau riche daughter of an oligarch who will most likely never get an appointment at Chanel, buying a $100K dress in a heartbeat from Saint Laurent is the closest she will get to feeling special and dirty rich.

For this price you pay for the exclusivity (i guess it is produced in very limited quantities), it may be done by hand in the atelier or it may be done by Lemarié (which is owned by Chanel is which is charging high prices for it), you pay for the brand, the show, the fact that it's a hot brand at the moment and you pay for the cool factor.

Today, people wants editorial pieces and are willing to buy it. I've heard some stories and seen some people being on very extreme shopping spree (the last time it was at Chanel) so i believe that there's a clientele for this dress obviously.


To be honest, this is not a really clever purchase for who ever decide to buy it. Vaccarello is not even an iconic designer...

I hope that at that price, you're at least able to change the hemline.


Remember a decade ago when Thyeskens at Nina Ricci was criticized for being too expensive or when we were all shocked by Balenciaga's runway pieces prices?
Christophe Decarnin really changed this industry for the worst in that aspect with the success of Balmain.

At this price, you can totally buy a Chanel Haute Couture look that will be made for you, for your body and for your lifestyle. To pay that much for a garnment you can't even sit with is ridiculous...

How do you think they're doing so well (at Chanel anyway)? Oligarchs and the like are exactly who's buying a big percentage of it, people who have so much money they can barely think what to do with it. We have a thread about this here somewhere ...

And she didn't even booked an appointment for that as we could imagine...
