Most Overpriced Designer?

I think some brands, like Helmut Lang and Balenciaga are very very expensive, and maybe overpriced yes, but not as atrociously as other designer labels. And it should be noted that the quality of the fabrics (even if it is only cotton) are great and the sheer detailing is top notch.
Prada has been discussed thouroughly enough, so I don't exactly have to bring it up. It makes me sad, actually, to think of the crummy fabrics and such from Prada, because some of her designs are really great. I'm just not willing to invest in something so poorely made (unless you're shopping at the outlets, of course :D).
Miu Miu as well. I bought my mom a purse last Christmas, and it's already terribly worn.
I think Lucien Pellat-Finet was mentioned. $3000 for a tacky freaking sweater? No.
Martin Margiela and Bernard Wilhem as well. I can't attest to the quality, because I haven't/don't have the desire to take the time. A lot of Wilhem's stuff looks like something my cat barfed up (the skirts ). His outwear can be quite nice though.

Feel free to argue with any of my statements! :flower:

The Y3 thread gave me an idea for this thread. So, who do you think is the most overpriced designer, not for the $$$ tag alone, but for what you get for your money? I pick Yohji Yamamoto. His prices just don't make sense to me. On our recent visit, a pair of simple RAYON women's pants was $560. Second place goes to Prada, I think her clothes are really simple, not too high quality and come with a very hefty tag. So, fire away!!!

yes yohji is very expensive....a blazer starts at 1,000!!! I dont know what he is thinking. that only allows people of the highest income brazket to purchase his things...hes got it wrong!!!!! thats why he isnt doing well!!!

overpriced: marc jacobs, michael kors, prada, miu miu, yohji yamamoto, comme des garcons, costume national, dior, chanel, cheap & chic, gucci
DVF

basically everyones overpriced!!!!! and they are definatley not giving us as consumers the quality that goes with that price tag. The whole world has gone up in price at every level. Just the price of iviing in NYC has gone up considerably and that is being translated to the fashion/ retail market...up up up..when is someone going to topple it down and break the mold!!! lets have a designer collection that actually gives us quality for less money!! thats avant garde!!!! and no I dont want to see it through H&M!!!!!thats been done once and yet again... I hope no more!!!

I think they all are overpriced. I don't know how anyone can justify asking for $200 for a T-shirt, $300 for a pair of filp flops or $900 for a cotton skirt. If you take the designer label out, those same items would sell for a fraction of the price. :innocent:
I AGREE WITH STYLEGURRL I DON'T SEE HOW SOME OF THESE DESIGNERS SLEEP AT NIGHT KNOWING THAT THEY HAVE PRICED A T-SHIRT AT $200 THAT JUST TERRIBLE. BUT YOU HAVE SOME IDIOTS WHO WILL BY THEM. AND I AGREE WITH FAUST PRADA IS PLAIN JANE AND WAY OVER PRICED.BUT I DO LIKE HER SHOES BUT STILL WAY OVER PRICED.

Umm all designers. I can't afford any!

Luckily their are great Australian brands which produce quallity garments which I can afford.

The only designer things I would actually save up for are the shoes and bags.

I'd say ever designer is def overpriced.
But the one designer I don't get is Marc Jacobs.
I remember his things used to be in a good price range and
its recently sky rocketed out of nowhere, I just don't get why his
stuff is so expensive, I really don't

Prada is overpriced, definitely. I wonder how much those v-neck sweatshirt material pulls from this coming spring cost...

Also I think Junya Watanabe menswear is overpriced, way overpriced.

i think that shops are driving up the prices more then designers
overpriced stuff is prada, versace, because it's not worth the money, all those people that say dior homme is overpriced.....it's expensive, but also very very well made in terms of tailoring, fabrics used etc. etc. so for me it's worth the money, although i agree on the tshirt with logo thing but that goes for pretty much every brand, those are crap, to bad their are to many people that are stupid enough to buy them so designers don't stop putting out those shirts cause they make lots of money.....

I think there are some other reasons that designer duds cost so much. 1) the Euro is really strong against the US dollar. Italian leather is becoming cost prohibitive for example. 2) designers spend so much time and energy getting their clothes on the famous that they give them the farm for free. The rest of us poor fools have to pay for our clothes!

And Moschino called it "Cheap and Chic"! The prices are super duper sky rocket high even with 70% discountand Bluemarin as well. Nice looking in mags but in real life... average quality.

mayb by cheap they mean their materials cost next to nothing and to look chic you'll have to pay top price! LoL

why isn't anybody mentioning Jil Sander back when she was in the house? (especially circa 1996-2000)
