Most Overpriced Designer?

Here's the HQ:

Though I love the the coat and the powerdy finish to the crocodile, I think the effect could have been very similarly achieved by using embossed leather, as seen here with this croc-embossed bag by Yves Saint Laurent:

and it would cost several $10,000s less.

I think I remember a mens coat in the 150000€ range. But its notable that the LV one is a lot longer than the jacket you posted. It's a great piece but ... arent people scared of it getting dirty and stuff?

Sure, the LV one is a coat; but you mentioned H jackets being more expensive thus my example

I don't know, if I could I wouldn't be scared to wear it. But I guess it depends of what kind of relationship you have with the things you own. Some like to try to keep them in their original state forever, some like to use them.

I know her shoes are notoriously overpriced but..

can anyone confirm that producing faux leather is more expensive than working with actual leather? it's something i've always wondered. and it confused me cause i've got tons of vegan friends and while they're not into high fashion they buy man-made shoes and they're never *that* expensive

^ Balmain is ridiculously overpriced. I could only justify spending their sort of prices when it's absolutely certain that the piece is ethical, organic and one of a kind.

:o:o:o
WOW, that's one expesive dress.
But, if I was rich, I would buy it anyway. It's so worth it. This piece is one of a kind.

are high prices the only reason why balmain is a luxury house ? ceause i'm sorry, but coton and elastane isn't luxurious at all for me... it doesn't even look confortable, balmain clothes looks always rude to wear. That's totally ridiculous. "luxury has to be confortable. If not, it's not luxury" Coco Chanel

^ This is haute couture or what?

Basically.
The crin it was made of was specially treated with chemicals to give it that metallic texture and then hand-pleated. The strings of pearls were hand-applied.
(I studied this dress for an essay last year ;))

Were did you find all the information? Did you contact Balenciaga? I am interested to know! Sounds very cool!!!

^ I found it merely through various sources on the internet, one being a youtube video of an analysis of one of the dresses from this collection (not the same one but using the same technique) and another including a short interview with Nicolas Ghesquiere where he described the use of crin which is usually used on the inside of couture garments to give them structure (I went more in depth on this fact in the essay ;))

Those McQueen clothes looks very expensive and have lot of work, I don't think are overpriced.
I can't say the same for the others.

^I totally lost sight of the purpose of the thread, the prices and the work behind the dresses interested me more than the intention of them being over priced, i think the Balenciaga creations are well worth the money, they really are art with how much work, detail and technology behind them, i really appreciate you providing us with this information Crying Diamonds I remember him discussing the technics too.
He really makes alot of designers at the same calibre as him look like amateurs with his innovative ideas and although sometimes it isn't conventionally 'Pretty' the story behind it in how many pain staking hours behind that look and the process are well worth the compromise of it being intentionally 'Pretty'.
