I think celebs like Beyonce, Rihanna and Kim K often wear fugly outrages things for for the PR and to make their lifestyle seem even more removed from ordinary (dull, boring, repetitive) life. I think there is a benefit for them, even beyond the paycheck. The rest of us have to dress in semi good taste to get ahead in life, while these girls are showing off that they can do whatever they want because they are at the top.

Thats my theory at least.

I wear purple lipstick, red patent heels, cement-colored nail polish, shocking pink, and no doubt other things that some people perceive as beyond the pale. (Various men at work have called me out for three of the items on this list--that's how I know they're outrageous )

CHANEL ss18 collection just published on official website. i think this is probably the most expensive Chanel SS collection i have ever seen on average level, lots items are over $20000, the prices of gowns are stably high, when u look at the show, u don't expect the price can be higher than a FW or metier d'art collection

I went through it yesterday and I went on some of the prices. This gown doesn't seem to have that much embroidery yet it's £55,000.

Seriously, everything in transparent plastic in that collection is overpriced IMO. When I compare the prices of the plastic pieces in that collection to the ones from ss2007 and FW2008, I can have an heart attack!

The sad thing (if it is) about Chanel is that they use their Métiers d’Arts in full capacity now. Every runway piece with a tiny embroidery is done by Lesage.
Only their in-between collections (the studios collections, not resort and prefall) has more decent prices.

Chanel pricing is really insane and at the same time, the boutiques are packed.

in terms of the chanel ss18 price, actually i think its one of their first time that publish the prices for all the pieces, in the past shows, there were always pieces from Maison d'art, and prices were indicated as price available on request.

well, since there is inflation, it's normal the price is higher than 10 years ago, same as everything else.

But i guess Chanel deliberately bump up the price to show the status of the house in RTW realm,
cause other brands like SLP, Dolce, GUCCI are pushing their prices as well
and Chanel definitely can't get behind those brands, the concept, the workmanship, the history, totally not the same level

I also think CHANEL inflating prices are somewhat related to how the brand is growing and being perceived from the general audience. I mean just look at their venues: back in 2004 we had simple long runways with some led panel and a CHANEL bag was like 2K $, in 2017 we had a space rocket launch station, an Eiffel tower replica and a major waterfall landscape all BUILT inside the Grand Palais and you can't even get a shopping bag for less than 5K $, how do you think they get the money to build from ground zero all these huge buildings in barely few months? They need to milk money out of rich people somehow
I also think CHANEL is one of the very few brands who gets lots of profit from haute couture and RTW stuff and not only from basic commercial stuff like perfumes and small leather goods (Dior and LV are like the opposite). Being said that the price of that shirt on Adwoa is just insane...with 36K $ you could get over three over embellished Balmain dresses

But the price varies in different markets and not always the exact price in boutique, just for your reference

Chanel doesn't expose business report, so no one outside the company knows the percentage of RTW and HC account for its business.
But one thing for sure, Chanel HC and RTW do sell better than other brands. before Gucci sit on a rocket, Chanel definitely lead the RTW business in luxury with a big advantage.
