Neiman Marcus: The Art of Fashion F/W 12.13 : K.Struss & I.Strubegger by Erik M. Heck

Some great shots in this campaign, especially the Alaïa and the Chanel one, but I wish the photography and the retouching was better. There's so much off about these images, the coloring and the contouring look all cheap and weird. Nice settings, though.

I agree, I especially dislike the exaggerated contouring. Makes them look older than they are.

One of the worst campaigns in terms of re-touching. It's utterly horrendous. They look like sim's characters.

Debuting nearly 20 years ago, The Art of Fashion print campaign continues to intersect the world's top photographers with high fashion, from Richard Avedon in 1994 to today's Fall 2012 campaign debuting the work of Erik Madigan Heck (the youngest photographer ever to shoot the Art of Fashion.) The Fall campaign features 25 designers including Alexander McQueen, The Row, Mary Katrantzou, Alaia Paris, Oscar de la Renta, Haider Ackermann and Céline. "I knew when I first started taking pictures that it was something that would allow me to create in a more contemporary manner," says Heck. "Painting was great, but I wanted a more time-relevant medium to express ideas and photography seemed to be it," he says. View the 27 images and read more about Heck in the September issue of The Book.

The Art of Fashion by Erik Madigan Heck: The Mood Films

turns out this way of retouching is the photographers concept

Photographer Erik Madigan Heck's saturated and seemingly brush stroked shots blur the line between photographs and paintings. This surrealist specialization carries out to another medium of creativity for the artist, film. As a supplement to the captivating Fall 2012 Art of Fashion campaign in the September issue of The Book, NM commissioned three art films from the youngest artist ever to shoot for the storied spread.

heck is one of those photographers who must be good at schmoozing, because the portfolio is a mess, he's all photoshop and networking. i hate when that sort of thing happens.

Yes, it's quite obvious the painting-effect was intended, but it's still so poorly done. Any kid can to that with the pre-installed effects in any picture editor. It looks more like a lazy excuse for the bad photography since it eliminates the necessity of working with depth of focus and good lighting. Kasia's Akris shot looks really nice in the HQ version, though.

ETA: Poster above is right, that portfolio is quite unimpressive, to put it nicely (although he has worked with great clients) http://www.maisondesprit.com

I always enjoy the Neiman Marcus campaigns, the clothes always look fabulous esp like the Lanvin and McQueen shot:heart: but I think they couldve done a better job with Iris and Kasia
