Nicolas Ghesquière - Designer, Creative Director of Louis Vuitton

Damn, I shouldn't believe everything I read on the internet

Not Confirmed: Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton

Last week, the Singapore-based men's fashion outlet, Men's Folio, wrote a post claiming that Nicolas Ghesquière's rumored position at Louis Vuitton had been confirmed. Today, the item was picked up by the Luxury Society, an influential network for luxury business news, further stoking speculation that Marc Jacobs' successor at the LVMH brand had been anointed. The story tore across Twitter and various fashion news websites where it was, in the manner of the Internet, treated as fact. That is, until Financial Times correspondent Elizabeth Paton Tweeted word that luxury conglomerate LVMH had refused to confirm the appointment, telling the UK paper, "No official decision has been made."

Didn't something like this happen with Wang at Balenciaga?
They're just toying with us haha

^^ And we all know how that turned out. In fact, most of the rumors of the past two years have ended up being true. So I'ld take this as news that NG is back!! I cannot wait! I am so excited right now I almost hit my head on the roof! Up yours Kerring/PPR

If this is true, I'm definitely very excited. It will be interesting to not only see him have to pave his own path and create his own heritage for the ready-to-wear, but to also keep up with the heritage of the brand for the accessories. He has interesting work cut out for him, if true.

The rumor has been here for a while since the fashion week. I will keep my fingers crossed and see the result!

His first show for Vuitton would be the most anticipated show EVER! The shows have been so boring as of late I am ready for Ghesquiere to quench my thirst.

I, for one, hope its NOT true. I think he can do better than just a glorified accessories company. How about a company known for, you know, CLOTHING?

^ Perhaps it will be a year from now ...

I think it was all a marketing/business decision, and not a very good one. Marc Jacobs makes most of its money on the clothes, and they're very proud of that, so it's clear that Marc (and Duffy) can make that happen. The LV clothes are barely available, and apparently barely produced. Everyone saw an LV bag yesterday, but when's the last time you saw someone wearing it, even in a photo? It's quite rare.

Some of Marc's RTW for LV was outstanding, and deserved to be sold and worn far more than it was.

So now that the world has finally figured out how lame the LV logo is, they blame him. Perhaps that's fair ... but I suspect it largely is not.

Hopefully now the emphasis will shift.

I'm indifferent to LV and I'm different to Ghesquiere. He had some amazing stuff in the mid 2000's but none of his recent stuff is appealing to me. I guess it could work out though.

I couldn't be happier! Nicolas has always been one of my favorites and the sooner he starts working again, the better:smile:

Let's hope it will happen. Louis Vuitton's ready to wear doesn't have that much of an heritage, so this will be the perfect occasion for Nicolas to showcase his talent and artistic expression.

Was Marc the first to do apparel for LV?

Update: Ghesquière Officially In at Louis Vuitton?
Since rumors of Marc Jacobs's departure from Louis Vuitton began swirling, the industry was placing bets on who would take the reins. But as Jacobs' last show came to a close this past September, it essentially became an open secret in Paris that Nicolas Ghesquière, who was fired from Balenciaga last November, would be helming the crown jewel of LVMH. Today, according to Luxury Society, Ghesquière (still mired in a lawsuit with his former bosses) has been named the new creative director of Louis Vuitton — though LVMH refuses to confirm it*. If true, he’ll be tasked with keeping the runway shows as interesting as Marc did and, of course, ensure their luxury accessories business hums along as successfully as he did at Balenciaga.

* This post has been updated to reflect the current LVMH denial. Though, we're willing to bet, this won't be the last update.

Thanks! Wonder what his direction will be seeing as there isn't really any "history" to LV apparel

to tell you the truth,i think it's all kind of a waste of an opportunity for nicholas to finally branch out on his own,not get sucked right back into that world again, especially so soon after departing balenciaga. he has the money and the freedom not to mention cachet factor.
