Nicolas Ghesquière - Designer, Creative Director of Louis Vuitton

to tell you the truth,i think it's all kind of a waste of an opportunity for nicholas to finally branch out on his own,not get sucked right back into that world again, especially so soon after departing balenciaga. he has the money and the freedom not to mention cachet factor.

I totally agree. I'd love to see Ghesquiere build his own house, free from 'heritage' and marketing preoccupations. Even if there really isn't much in the way of house codes and apparel history to Vuitton, there'd still the omnipresent marketing directives, specially in accessories.

Maybe NG doesn't want his own label? It's like people who run a business - I'm someone who has no plan to ever do so, I'd just rather work for somebody else and let that person deal with the headaches, whereas other people have that drive/passion.

You do make a valid point especially after that article in System where he was talking about how the corporate structure was just killing him. I hope he fares better at LV.

I think Vuitton will turn into what is basically Ghesquiere's own label anyway.. only with an almost endless budget.
He can design what he likes as long as he reaches the papers and that camera stays filming what the model is holding in her hand.

wwd:

Ghesquière, 42, is to show his first collection for the French luxury firm next March.

Vuitton said Ghesquière would bring “a modern creative vision to the house’s women’s collections, building on the values of refinement, savoir faire and extreme quality.”

“Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration,” Ghesquière said. “I am very honored of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great maison. We share common values and a vision.”

My body is so ready.
Good job to everyone involved in making this happen !

My life is complete now as Nicolas is back in action! Looking forward to all the wonders he's going to do with the brand.

You do make a valid point especially after that article in System where he was talking about how the corporate structure was just killing him. I hope he fares better at LV.

the Systems interview revealed more of his frustration with an unresponsive, underfunded and uncaring corporation than anything about his distain for the actual corporate wheels of industry. He showed a shrewd mind for business in that interview. But his very insightful criticism of the corporate mechanism overtaking the creative aspect of high fashion seemed like he was ready to strike out independently. With his connections, popularity and influence in the industry, he would secure backers easily. Now that he's allied with the biggest corporations in high fashion out there is a real testament to his own ambition to be one of the most powerful players/ designers in the industry. In truth, he showed he understands art and commerce. The man means business.

Vuitton has no heritage with their clothing, Nicolas will do wonders for the brand in finally strengthening and forging a strong identity in that area. The bags will be a breeze for someone of his refined talent; He's one of the few designers that can bridge the gap between adult, innovation in design and high street fashion.

The Louis Vuitton brand will be held in higher prestige than ever before. Balenciaga has downgraded into a consumer-department brand next to the pairing of Vuitton and Ghesquiere. All eyes on Nicolas now-- and rightfully so.

Woah, so good to hear this! I just cannot wait for March to see his first show.

I am just glad that he is back in the fashion limelight so soon. After Jil's departure, I could with this piece of great news!!

What's the point of denying they have hired him to announce two days later that he’s officially in? They like toying with us I guess, because everybody knew it. It really gets on my nerves. LVMH always does the same thing.

next season is going to be soo exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait to see his first LV collection, so curious!!!

So happy he landed another gig. Loved most of his work at Balenciaga so bring it on!

I'm really happy for Nicolas! I'm sure he'll do a great job...
