i think those really long gowns can be very passe... but olivier makes them so modern

this is sadly nowhere near the magic of what olivier has already achieved at rochas. i am missing a touch of the 'flou' that he was investigating in his last few collections before ricci, the cloudy tulle gowns and skirts in his last rochas show were probably the epitome in terms of craft and capability to bring fabric 'alive' when in movement, sadly these were some rather 'stiff' and unflattering gowns i have seen here at nina ricci.

there were a couple lovely separate pieces in the mix that i liked, such as the bias-cut jersey dress on kim in one of the first looks and a couple of the oversized sweaters or the pants, but overall, this collection lacked the maturity and sophistication that olivier has proven so far.

i am liking however how this is having a very 'urban' vibe, but the grandeur is simply missing this time. let's see how he will continue from here on, it probably is proving to be a success this time.

Yea the talent is still there, but Rochas was more about timeless evening wear....this label does seem to have pieces one can wear daily/effortlessly...I think it will be a slower progression to maturity in this label. At least he is free to design as he chooses B)

I think you're right. Theyskens said something about taking things slowly while at Rochas too, didn't he?

Wow those pictures are amazing fashionpal88, thank you soo much:flower: . I thought this collection was extraordinary, those pics could be an editorial spread there so beautiful!

The video is up @ style.com :flower: I can't seem to find any others though, I'm so sick of Tim Blanks :ninja:

^ I do so agree about Tim Blanks..he's working on my nerves..maybe we get a full video of the show on vogue.fr soon.

the only nina ricci trunkshow in new york will be at saks starting on march 20...
from wwd...
Saks Fifth Avenue chose one of the most expensive gowns, at $27,990, from Olivier Theyskens' first collection for Nina Ricci, for an upcoming full-page ad in Sunday's New York Times. Theyskens' gray silk voile ruffle bustier column gown was whisked off the Paris runway and onto a transatlantic flight, tucked away in a six-foot crate, for a shoot at Saks' photo studio last week. The ad will announce the first and only New York trunk show for Nina Ricci's fall collection, said a spokeswoman. The shoot was inspired by Theyskens' Paris show, right down to the feather placed in the model's hair. The trunk show will start March 20.

^ do you have the pic? or is this going to be in next sunday's?

looking into this collection again, i cant help myself and see a good amount of pieces on the runway as quite 'gimmick-y' (all the ribbons tied around jeans, wide leg pants and stockings, the string-y black camisole top number, paillette beading, metal-chain accessories and weighty zipper fastenings on his airy, tailored jackets...), whereas others fall into a category that desperately cries 'CHLOE', such as the slouchy parkas, leather jackets and pocketed dresses.

Whoever said that the clothes look sophisticated in terms of construction will likely be disappointed upon having a closer look - this is nowhere close to what he already showed at Rochas and his own label, yet the collection remains at a similarely high pricepoint as Rochas.

I will keep my eyes open for next season, but this one had been a very underwhelming collection of Olivier's.
