Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 08

wow, i kind of totally love this. the furs are my favourite. i'm not feeling those first two dresses that masha's wearing though

I like it. Think it looks chique and elegant, but in a twisted way.
Tho something isn't quite right, and I can't put my finger on it.

On one side, I like the "old-lady-feel " of some of the outfits, on the other side, didn't we just do the whole granny-thing?

It's not very fashion-forward, but still charming

It does look less desperately 'young' than last season... which I think is a good thing, since this is a collection positioned at the very end of the high end designer's pricing... and I think at that, you don't want your clothes - albeit being beautifully tattered, to look like grunge-y party girl clothes.

This feely more appropriate for a Parisian 'couture' house, yet it remains accessible and wearable... Yet compared to his collections at Rochas, it still feels kind of 'blah' to me, instead of the 'wow' I have been waiting for since his arrival at Nina Ricci.

That first combo-dress in knit, degrading into woven fabric, I would like to see in a close up!

Is it the lighting, or is the coat "coloured" that way?

There's nothing in fabrications to suggest Spring. Astrakhan, wools, mohair knits. His use of pastel shades perhaps gives that impression.

His ethereal vision marries well with pale hues but not when combined with the lady like core tailleurs that are the house staples (like most maisons).

If he stuck to his blacks like he has done for most of his career, it would not prove an obstacle, but then again, one has to experiment into new territory as a designer for better or worse...

However this is a Pre-collection so it will satisfy the existing base of loyal customers. He will take the same gamme of colour and undoubtedly cut more suitable forward looks out of them for the defilé.

I have always loved loved loved his greys, and it looks like he's dipping into the browns a little bit. I like it :D

this collection is beautiful! it's perhaps the nicest he's done for the label so far. the colours are perfect for pre-fall; they're evocative of the colours we see in nature around here (eastern Canada). there's a coolness to the colours, but not as cold as a winter collection. he's reconciled his ideas of refinement and coolness in this collection. i love the figurative work in the dresses; it's reached a higher level of skill and refinement than in the past. im desperate to see more. vive le theyskiens!

It's definitly nothing new, and it does look post fall; but I do like it. I love and adore the two furs. They look very luxuirious and delicious!

Nina Ricci - Improvising

I like it. Compare to cruise and S/S Nina Ricci, I think this is very old New York-ish, more lady-like, more mature (due to the hair & make-up), sophisticated in any sense. He's looking less on the street this time. The hue maybe diffiicult for some, fits are slightly loose but not ill-fitted, just not sl*tty body-con. Also, newness by Oli are some column dress, bias are still in top form. I can see items for both Anna Wintour and daughter Bee Shaffer, which is good.
Take away the styling, you get something that Olivier Theyskens has been giving us- creation with soul and heart which is rarely found today. I always feel if they mean to give you *FASHION* or not, Karl Lagerfeld has long lost that, especially in the last couple of seasons, but Olivier is one of those who gives us dream.
