I'm going to New York City in one week, and I was wondering what everyone there is wearing. I know everyone is pretty unique there, but is there any certain trends I should know of? I don't want to look like a total tourist.

Clothes wise, like you said, anything goes. However here are some tips to help you not stick out. These are meant to be helpful and i'm just being honest, please don't take any of this to offense.

Do not wear a backback or fanny pack
Do not stand in the middle of the street and stare at buildings
Staring at a subway map clearly makes you an obvious tourist
Do not wear any brighter colored plain style tank top
Do not wear any type of running sneakers

Also, don't wear flip flops. The city's dirty, and you don't want to get your feet all gross from the streets. People wear a lot of black, too. If you just want to blend in, just wear jeans and a t-shirt, and you'll be fine. I think people are too busy thinking about themselves to notice if you're a tourist or not.

yeah i was wondering how the weather is end of june to end of july.. i'll be there for 4 weeks and since it's the city is going to be really really hot?

i notice...
...

can't help it..
they stick out like sore thumbs usually....
especially downtown...

***depends where you are...what part of town...

it is WAY more funky downtown....
uptown and midtown is pretty classic and conservative like anywhere...

just wear shorts or leggings...
seems to be the most popular things...
or a little vintage summery dress....

:flower:

Just got back from NY and noticed lots of long tunic dresses over jeans. I thought that trend was done? Guess I was wrong.

be prepared for heat and have a great time! (and contrary to popular belief most new yorkers are quite nice and happy to help tourists, especially in recent years. i've lived here all my life and hate to think anyone wouldn't feel welcome)!
p.s. for more ideas you could also check out the new york street style thread for inspiration
