Menswear Trends S/S 06

Pinky* said:
i like the skinny, loose pant look coming up..
paisley in moderation..
white pants on the runway (but in reality has mostly only seen this on 50+ yr old men)..
suspenders with the right body.. dangers of looking like pete doherty..
no to skinny ties and stripes.. zzzz.. its been regurgitated over and over.. i wish they'd actually reinvent it rather than pretend its so fresh each time..

it seems like both mens and womenswear for s/s are suited for a very specific body type.. but i'm actually more excited about mens s/s than womens..

White pants look awesome in summer, Last summer I was wearing white true religions with solid blue flip flops with white straps  as for guys fashion you guys have to find what you're comfortable with and what looks good, try something new if you feel confident in your clothes the ladys will think you look good it's all about attitude (provided you're not wearing orange polka dots on a pink shirt lol)

Shorts...not so much a trend, but it seems to be more prevalent this season on the runway...

Why?!?! I've never understood why (most) men are so fashion shy. I went shopping today and every guy I saw looked exactly the same (oversized striped shirt, baggy pants, dirty sneakers - all AF). They even had the same shaggy, side-swept hair style
There is nothing sexier than a guy who takes care in his appearance and appreciates fashion.

Sorry for the rant...back on-topic :P

No need to apologise! Since fashion is mostly aimed at a Mass-market,it's in the interests of the clothes manufacturers and their media commentators to encourage shop bought conformity;UK & US popular culture(eg;people creating their own style/music/identity)has almost vanished, replaced by slick corporate ad campaigns which have succeeded in convincing millions of young adults/teens that wearing over priced brands is actually being"coool"
ans "rebellious";this is patently absurd;or as we say in britain;"A load of old bollocks" hmm;perhaps some "entrepeneur" will coin this as a design label
and bombarb us with an update of the cod piece? Watch this space....

There is only one adjective I can think of; AWFUL!

Unless you're on a chilly beach, blazers and pants are a no-no.

Im sorry im still wearing my velvet blazer, i love it. way too preppy this fashion, i mix it up with something urban.

Did you mean that blazers and shorts are a no-no?

Shorts/blazers and suits made up of jacket/shorts (for men and women) has been shown for years, but it never catches on... I guess that's because shorts are so obviously casual and non-dressy. It simply does not work in real life.

It can look cute, but in real life there's no place for it, is there? I guess it's more a styling thing than a real-life option.

all of those pics look vy cruise collection to me..
its not as repelling as when i initially saw it, but still not digging the grandpa loafers + pale hairy legs combo.
otherwise.. its kind of growing on me, though i doubt i'll soon see this outfit on a guy near me.

I think the question of girls being intimidated by men who dress well is deeper than has been discussed in this thread. Women want their man to look good, BUT wear stuff that they like. Thats what makes things complicated, when she says dont wear that, not because of the fact it is innovative just because personaly she doesnt like it. People's tastes clash sometimes, doesn't mean she wants you to dress like everyone else.

For example my ex grilfriend hated bright colours, and always tried me to dress in muted colours (still in cashmere and pinstrips, so not run of the mill). She simply didnt like my colourful tops, and i guess it makes girls feel more comfortable out with you if they like what you wear.

Doesn't mean i didnt wear my yellow and blue comme jumper out to piss her off though hehe...

Yup, I meant shorts, and yes the blazer/shorts looks has been seen umpteen times on the runaway, but the whole look, as great as it sounds, just doesn't translate into real life.

mens in 2006

what are men going to be wearing this year, in particular more feminine guys?

i really have no idea what to build my wardrobe around this year, i'm keeping my skinny jeans, stripey tops and waistcoats, but what else should i be buying? i just bought some skinny black suspenders but im not too sure how to wear them without making the look too harsh. by the way because i'm a new membe, just so you know kate moss, mischa barton, nicole richie and the olsen twins. lol i know they're women and im not but i tend to adapt more feminine styles into my own, and really don't mind dressing eccentric but it's greys, blues and browns that i wear mostly so please don't recommend garish greens and yellows to me
