Ralph Lauren - online vs discount outlet

Is anyone able to tell me if it is worth heading to the discount outlets while in the US? Or am I better off ordering online, especially if there is a discount coupon on at the time?

Or is it always cheaper in stores?

What kind of discounts can you find at Woodbury for high fashion labels?

going to woodbury is an all day affair. it is quite the time suck. i once spent 8 hours there and didnt buy a THING - and i'm a shopaholic.

there is a saks off fifth outlet where my man bought a wool saks branded coat and burberry scarf. both under 200$ combined.

a lot of the luxury stores there don't have much stock at all. i think there were 10 bags total at the chanel store. the burberry outlet mostly had items with loud colors on them.

I believe Woodbury is where O Magazine did a story a few years ago where their fashion guy and Gayle King went and bought a bunch of stuff, including multiple dresses from Oscar de la Renta (just checked & he does have a store there). They were heavily printed, you could totally see why they'd ended up at an outlet :ninja:

I've only been to a few outlet stores and most of them are just the designer pop-up ones but I am hesitant to buy from them because I question whether the clothes are genuine. However, I can share my terrible experience I had at one when I was looking around and the sales assistant (he was Italian) came up and started talking to me about the clothes. I'm pretty sure only Italian brands were there (Blumarine, Roberto Cavalli, Emporio Armani, etc.) and none of it was really my style. I told him that I liked other designer brands like Alexander McQueen, Kenzo and Christopher Kane (I'm pretty sure he didn't even know them), more contemporary and interesting to me. He said that the clothes here (in the store) were all good quality and made in Italy, I didn't doubt that but some of my McQueen and Kane pieces are made in Italy and I told him that. He then said that they probably weren't and were made in China, afterwards stating the ONLY Italian brands were made in Italy. I was so angry I just didn't want to bother talking to him anymore so I just acted surprised and played along to his stupid nonsense. After he left me alone I just walked out of the store. As if questioning the quality of my designer pieces is going to make me buy yours. Walked by the store the other day and saw that they were only going to be there for two more weeks. Good riddance!

^ Agreed, I have French designer things made in Italy I believe ... as if :rolleye:

Some SAs have a tremendous amount of attitude, I have yet to understand it.

i like outlets for home stuff...
high end kitchen tools and bedding, that sort of thing
and things like luggage or umbrellas...

i once went to the totes outlet on a holiday weekend so there were extra sales and i just bought 6 foldable umbrellas in various black and white prints, knowing that i would eventually lose or give away all of them...
i gave the last one to my house guest last year...
but not one of them ever broke!
not like a cheap street vendor umbrella...
:innocent:...

we used to have a pottery barn/williams sonoma outlet in the city but it's been gone for a long time now...
i still miss it...
i always got good things there...
cups, candles, lighting, xmas stuff...small home accessories...

now ikea is the next best thing...

I like Le Creuset outlets ... I've gotten good deals on first quality there ... but honestly, I've gotten just as good deals at the Williams-Sonoma that's 2 minutes from my house.

My major outlet shopping is Yoox ... if that's considered an outlet :)

I have been to SerraValle close to Milan after 8 days travelling through Barcelona, Nice, Cinque Terre, French Riviera and I had no money left and had no idea about my CC and had short time like 1-2 hours in SerraValle Outlet close to Milan but it was amazing. I bought CK basic clothes for ridiculus price, a Guess bag around 45 EUR but I wish I knew I was going there so I could save money for last minute outlet shopping I did windowshopping of Missoni, Dolce gabbana, Gucci stores mainly there were amazing pieces. One of my friends bought Burberry trenchcoat and did tax free. I want to go there again someday :shock::shock:
