Century 21

C21 in long island is much better than C21 in manhattan.

way too many ppl go shop in the manhattan branch that the really good stuff never lasts that long. as soon as something good comes in chances are, someone will buy them within the next couple days. where as the long island store isnt that crowded so they usually have more stuff left over.

you really need to go there at the right time to find good stuff.

You really need time to stay in there and dig.

It's really like a treasure hunt - last time I was there I went in at a bad time on Saturday. Predictably, there were losts of people and the untidy racks really put me off.
But they do have a lot of stuff - just a matter of luch I guess.

on a lite century 21 day i like to do: bags, sunglasses, shoes only (which is still a journey)....doing the clothing thing is a real commitment if you want to try things on. but can be worth it. also, since you just moved here s*t*a*r it's a great place to pick up cheap housewares, towels, gadgets down in the basement. i hear the men's stuff is pretty good there too if you ever have the need. during SATC years i probably saw pat field there like 5 times. also to note, although there are def. lots of authentic items i notice they have a lot of fake junk like von dutch and polo...

I went to Century 21, it was a sensory overload. Tons of stuff thrown together and people running through it like they're insane. They did have some serious designers such as Gaultier and Gucci (not that monogrammed crap, but runway lovliness), I didnt find the sailor shirt from Gaultier that I really wanted (but there were some gorgeous satin pieces and his signature trenches). They also had some crap such as those signature Versace tees, lots of tacky Versace (V2, Jeans Couture, etc.). There was some Ungaro, Cavalli, D&G, lots of trash.

I got too lazy to really look anymore though, it was soo much effort pushing aside everyone and tip toeing over all the clothes on the floor. I did get some shoes, but the shoe section sucked (not the womens which was off-the-chains).

I think I went at the wrong time, they were doing construction which made everything very awkward and I dont think thier whole menswear selection was available.

There was a highpoint, my mom went crazy in the housewears so we had to carry several heavy bags full of sheets, towels and the such.

Next time Ill go earlier in the day (not after everyone gets off of work) and Ill take my kicking shoes.

is century 21 like tj max or marshalls, filenes? if it is i bet people buy stuff and then purposely take tags off that and return fake or sh*tty merchandise.

Yep, just more highend than TJ Maxx and Marshalls, though Ive heard that they carry designers in some areas. For some reason I dont think that would happen, Century 21 is probably smarter than that, they probably have a no tags no return policy on the designer stuff.

Im going to be in NYC for about a week and a half starting on the 10th.

My friend in CA reccomended Century 21 for designer garments that are discounted?

Just wondering if any of you TFS'ers have been there, etc.
Thanks!

You should go. They just got a lot of Cloak in.

Im going to the city again this weekend.

Does Century 21 have any Cloak in?
Do they ever sell Dior Homme?

I NEEEEED to know, I just spent the last 2 hours searching DH on ebay.
I hate how high they price, UGH! :P

i cant remember what time it was when i went to century 21 but it wasnt busy at all....
must have been fairly early in the morning....
i remember thinking the place looked 'cheap' from the outside too...
but luckily girlfriends of mine who frequent nyc had insisted i go....i wasnt sure what to expect....but was quite pleasantly suprised....

i agree with all the info here...
be prepared to hunt....
sort through a lot of stuff...messy racks...and fitting rooms with no curtains or doors.......

i bought a cute marc jacobs shirt...
the shoe selection was fantastic when i was there....
you just need time, energy and a sharp eye....
lots of crowded racks and things thrown all over the place sometimes....so if you can weed through to find what you like then you'll have a blast...

great place....

It took me about an hour just to figure out how to go about starting.
They need to offer a "How to Shop at Century 21" course for beginners.

I went there last Feb. and it was a definite miss. One could spend hours and hours digging though things and the isles/walkways were awful and hard to get through. I didn't care for it because it was way to chaotic and cluttered.

So this place is the equivalent of Filene's Basement? I love places like this.
