I am a loyal fan of David Letterman; I'll watch it every chance I get to stay up late.

But she told him she didn't want to talk about it and he wouldn't let it go.
Any other day that would have been funny, but he took it too far.

Now I'm definitely not a Paris fan, but I have to say she handled herself quite well. The man just went too far and you could see she was very uncomfortable at parts. The world picks on her enough; he didn't have to take it to that extreme when she very obviously was there for different reasons and was putting on her best, most serious face. I just ended up feeling bad for the poor girl. But maybe I just don't have a sense of humor, I don't know.

I am seeing the old Dave and I love it!
I bet he would love to rip apart half of the celebs that sit in that chair....
I guess he just couldn't resist with someone as easy as her.

Well he certainly did what the senile Larry King didn't do...I think she plays up this innocent routine and it's just too late for that. She can't even laugh at herself...I'm just amazed she takes herself so seriously...

Nicole Richie could easily be as disliked as her but she actually has some sense of self-deprecation...

Sometimes I wonder why people like Paris, who clearly have no sense of humor about themselves whatsoever, choose to be subject to talkshow banter. That said, I wouldn't show up on Letterman except on a good day- a good day not being any where I'm famous enough, but a good day wit-wise. (Rare...)

 I was waiting for her to burst into tears. Looks like jail didn't harden her up, that pouting and baby talk made her look a ridiculous little spoilt brat!

i can't say that i feel bad for her. even with his questioning, she still sat there making her signature sideways coy pouts and looking oh-so pleased with herself.

"I feel like i can do anything now!".

I still love you Conan, but Letterman that was awesome.

Paris you've been pwned. I'm willing to bet that she hasn't had anyone be this honest to her face, not even her own idiot parents.

paris really just annoyed me - obviously people are going to ask, and if she just played it up and talked about it and laughed at herself a little instead of trying to pretend she's there for "serious" reasons, she could have used the whole jail stint to her advantage, people would get over it eventually. i can think of plenty of other stars who would have a non serious laugh about it and everyone would respect them a lot more.

'This could be your legacy.' LMAO

Dave doesn't give a damn, and I love it. And the perfume swigging? Priceless.

I didn't really find it funny, I felt awkward and embarassed mostly. Regardless of whatever she's done, she's a human being, and I think David was being plain rude.

I agree. Dave did take it too far and I think Paris handled herself very well.

I think it was really mean how he treated her and the audience as well, it was just a very uncomfortable and annoying situation for her to be in I'm sure. And she only did the pout thing I believe so she would make light of the situation. It's pretty impressive how she kept the smile on her face and conversed with him without any rudeness after he finally moved on from the topic. But I think anyone who has been to jail and especially like her had such a difficult time dealing with it would not want to speak so openly and jokingly about it, it's her right to not want to talk about it. So I also found it hard to watch and just thought it was awkward and didn't find any humor at all in what he said it was just rude!

looks like Sarah Silverman decided to weigh in on the situation:

Sarah Silverman: Paris 'Handled Herself Well' on Letterman
WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 03, 2007 02:00 PM EDT
By Sara Hammel

Sarah Silverman may make it a habit to skewer stars like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears – but the comic has some kind words for the hotel heiress, who was grilled by David Letterman on Friday's Late Show.

"I thought she handled herself well," Silverman, 36, tells USA Today.

But Silverman also has praise for the host, who questioned Hilton about her jail stint for more than six uncomfortable minutes.

"I love Dave. The old Letterman was back a little bit," she says. "He was being a hilarious pain. I thought it was like old, classic Dave."

Silverman herself told an off-color joke about Hilton's jail sentence during the June's MTV Movie Awards. (She later apologized.)

As for Spears, whom Silverman made fun of during the MTV VMA's last month, (she called the singer's sons "the most adorable mistakes"), Silverman is unapologetic.

"My instinct is to answer honestly. People keep saying I'm still talking about it, but I'm not the one bringing it up. I'm over it," she says. "I loved the jokes."

Asked if she has spoken to Spears, she quips, "We're not hanging out like we used to."

I hate when comedians say sorry...
and why for one but not the other?....
I think they were both on the same level?...
mabye she just doesn't like Britney.

She did a pretty good job actually. Prentending to laugh and all and try to change the subject.

So funny though
