Philadelphia Shopping

Jen, have you checked out Old City yet? Clubs, bars, bands, food...sorta the hip spot of Philly. Here's a club guide I googled which could be of help...don't worry you will meet people in no time......http://philadelphia.citysearch.com/roundup/38266/philadelphia/.html
Sadly I can't personally recommend which spots are the best but you can scan the reviews and part of the fun is exploring yourself as well....

knit wit has an outlet. if you're not the same size as me, i'll tell you where it is :D

edited to add: what do you like to do and where do you want to be? i can definitely give you tons of suggestions.

ok, wanted to report to everyone that i just got a job at knitwit, so if you ever plan on shopping in rittenhouse square, come in and ask for jen. pm me if you'd like to know what we carry, i worry that listing the stuff here would seem like advertising.

congrats! i'll prolly visit a couple times once i get back to philly in sept :woot:

thanks theory! so far i am . . . bored. i don't know anyone here so it's hard to find out about fun stuff to do! having to work on the weekends doesn't help . . . any suggestions are welcome!

walking around south street is fun, there are tons of bars/lounges in old city.
tweeter center in nj is really close by and they usually have lots of concerts going on.. also.. dont forget about pma, philly orchestra, and kimmel center for arts and music. :flower:

I'll be headin into philly this sunday to meet a friend and was wondering what boutiques are recommended for menswear in particular?

btw...would anyone know whether the majority of city's stores/attractions are closed for the holiday weekend?

I dunno if its me or what, but Franklin Mills has become so run down and borderline sketchy (as far as characters) in my opinion. I remember years ago, before Woodbury became all the hoopla, people would take buses down there from NYC and shop. It's dark and besides the NM Last Call and Saks Off Fifth (bothof which are iffy) I think Franklin Mills is washed up....I'd skip it

that's sad...franklin mills used to be pretty cool and the only place you could get designer stuff for cheap (without driving to secaucus!)

Aww I'm sorry you feel lonely. Why don't you take some fun classes or something and you'll make friends in no time.

As for shopping, just go to New York...it's not that far and def. worth it. B)

Joan Shepp is still the best place to go in Philly. They now are carrying a HUGE HUGE HUGE selection of Christian Louboutin shoes in their new shoe botique and everything you get from there is original and awesome. One of the best shops around. knitwit is great, but the people who work there ten to be super pushy and RUDE.

I'll be going to PHilly for a long weekend in August. We plan on going to the King of Prussia mall of course. I am interested in Joan Shepp (where is it located exactly?)
Also, the Old City area sounds great... any other shops, boutiques, unique to Philly I should check out??

Try getting a subscription to Luck Magazine...this goes for anybody really. Every month, they have a section in the back of the mag, about different places to shop and descriptions of what they offer in cities near you (the one closest to me being Philadelphia) and they usually have 15% off discounts too, for mentioning the magazine at the time of purchase!!

They also list local shops on Lucky's website, too. Hope I helped a little..

i love that mall too...i used to work in the express there...many moons ago

btw...merged :flower:

KOP Mall is great shopping place but mad crazy during black friday till x-mas. i like their bloomingdales. Their Cheese Factory is always packed. But I go to Willow Grove and Montgomery Mall more.

I've been to Ubiq a couple of times and left due to the "I'm to good to even notice you let alone help you" attitude of the salespeople...I've been told that the markdowns are good though.

 Thats so true. I think they just had like a little renovation and added a new section to the store upstairs.

I guess what is still absent from this thread is the mainline shopping (along lancaster ave.). South Moon Under ([FONT=verdana,arial]southmoonunder.com) is typical preppy clothing. Their really are a few nice boutiques in the Wayne area.

I really wish philly would catch up...

Charles Porter has some nice stuff...there is also one vintage shop on south street that everyone flocks to but I forget it's name.

I buy my foreign magazines at Avril 50 on Sansom St...LOVE that store.

You could always take a trek over to The Promenade at Sagemore in South Jersey...on the speedline. They have La Rouge (tons of designer names, mostly Italian), Hugo Boss...

LUXXX, Next time you go could you see if they have a Japanese Denim magazine entitled "Lightning"?

The only Japanese mag I have ever seen there is Vogue Nippon and their version of Numero.

I agree with franklin mills, the only good shops left are BCBG and Kenneth cole. But the people are odd, so I barely ever even step foot in the place.
