Phoebe Philo - Designer

I heard from a little bird (a different and slightly less untrustworthy bird)

- it will be direct to consumer
- limited run capsules released each month instead of seasonal collections
- the first release is this September.
- looks a lot like old Celine

I hope they will have a small network of retailers and shows.
We saw what happened with Rihanna’s Fenty and the success of Jacquemus (Directo to consumer approach, good set of retailers and fashion shows to feed the machine).

According to the press release from July 2021, we were to have received more details on the project in January 2022. It's February 2023 and the studio has been completely silent, to the point of getting bad press because of that. Therefore, I feel like they've somehow killed the anticipation and as a result, may not be satisfied with the customers' response. I'm questioning direct-to-customer model here, because LVMH already tried it and failed miserably with Fenty. But let's see, it may be a huge success just because it's Philo.

While I agree it has lost some momentum, I don't think the intended customer or the media has at all lost interest. From all the gossip and chatter I've been hearing over the last year and a half, people are still very, very keen.

As soon as this thing is unveiled it'll be so well-covered and discussed, I have no doubt that the clothes will sell extremely well from the outset. Whether or not it can maintain sales after the hype of the launch is a whole other story.

But Fenty did not fail because it was DTC, it failed because the product was wrong and the prices were off.

I mean from the get-go we can anticipate the Fenty is not going to last long. The line doesn't have anything that speaks to the fashion crowd and the price is too expensive to speak to her fan. At the end of the day is just another side hustle for Riri. They are lucky to close the brand during the pandemic so it's less embarrassing for both parties.

Back to Phoebe, I'm still very much exciting about her brand. In this age where you have products being churned out at a crazy pace, I rather have her present something when it is truly ready.

I have to say it’s a pity that she’s not gonna make any show (for now) because just imagine: Daria opening the first show from Phoebe Philo after 5 years of absence. Everyone would f*cking die.
I think Emmanuelle said that she retired for ever and that she didn’t really liked it. Maybe a campaign but I don’t think we will ever see Daria on a show…
