Prada Menswear F/W 11.12 : Tobey Maguire by David Sims

I don't really understand the choice of model especially after past season's campaigns. It would have been wonderful if some of the models from the show could have featured. Otherwise, it probably works well from a commercial stand point for Prada. I'm not too keen on the shots, though.

The second image is a play with lights, the first is a play with geometric formations, so these things make the ad really intelligent. I dont like Tobey, but they found his great angle on the second shot. I have no doubt this campaing will look wonderful in print.

clearly Miuccia liked the idea of him fronting her brand, so he's more than good enough for all of us.

Well it's Miuccia, you know. She likes to surprise. And quoting her own words...

"His mood is transfixed and pensive, full of vibrant intensity and mystery," added designer Miuccia Prada of the images, which were shot by David Sims.

...I think it's all beautifully executed. Hiring Sims for this was such a good idea.

I think last season's campaign was much better. I don't mind Tobey, just Sims. His photography does not fit the Prada aesthetic at all.

This captures the element of surprise I expect from a Prada collection, how she likes to challenge her own 'hell no!'s and how she has a good memory and genuine appreciation for fantastic faces.. like Tobey's! . I opened this expecting something as bland as her campaigns for menswear and I was pleased to see Tobey looking as handsome as he did for the first installment of Spiderman. And sorry to go like a broken record again but I'm also happy to see David Sims doing stuff like this, most people forget he can be an outstanding photographer that creates marvelous images and captures light so beautifully (Jil Sander S/S 04, anyone?), his studio assignments have taken all of the attention so I'm glad to see him doing this type of work, that turn on his creative engine again.

I really like it, it's so typically Prada. Again if I didn't know this was Tobey Maguire I'd think he was a model. The look here and his expressions remind me of Harry Kinkhead's ads for Prada.
