Rick Owens S/S 09 Paris

The first half was really blah, imo...
Second half is very nice... the coats and skirts, esp..
Very nice dresses too; very classic...

Love it...one of the few SS09 collections that I actually like.

i have to admit rick owens is the type of designer i can't appreciate until i see his stuff off the runway. i really grew to love last seasons boots, maybe an item in this collection will be the same. none the less, i can say that everything here looks extremely comfortable.

Whoa. I have not been this excited about a Rick Owens collection in a loooong time. These boots, just like the previous seasons' Chewbacca boots, would look cool on the right person (not me).

Good thing there's now an RO store in NYC, bec. Barneys always disappoints with their RO selection. I wish I could buy some of those pieces now!

I love this but why does he have to have the most stupid and unwearable shoes (if you can even call them that) every season?!! :innocent:

This is so modern but without being too futuristic or robotic.

Brilliant!

I'm in the same boat. I always like his clothes more than I like his shows.

Maybe it's the styling. The pieces become sort of obscured by the layers and ideas....at least for me.

and i think there is a Alaia hint on the waist processing of the leather vests.

an absolutely divine collection..:crush: thank you so much for posting all of those mullet, and all the detailed shots too...they showcase the craftsmanship and beautiful details so well. :flower:
my only complaint is the footwear...i'm sorry but it's truly horrid and so distracting...rather than being unique or edgy it just takes away from the beauty and interest of the clothes imo. this collection didn't need both the headpieces and the monster-ish footwear...one would have been enough...

I wouldn't be quick to dismiss this collection since it does show a smart, subtle way of layered fabric but this isn't the wardrobe I'd expect even on a homeless person.

i think this collection is really beautiful, minus the head- and footwear. the jacket and vest with the knotted detail are must haves, as are the faux croc vests!! this is really my fave rick owens in a while.

The sensation of filing past the black-lipped, pale-skinned gatekeepers at Rick Owens' show is akin to that of gaining entry to a sect gathering. You sit down, a whoosh of dry ice fills the room, and there they are on the runway, Owens' bewimpled women in black, or, as he named them this time, the "Priestesses of Longing."

Somehow the vaporous ritualism of the beginning of Owens' show seemed to link up with the primitivism (cave people, tribalism, that sort of thing) that's emerging from the fashion ether this season. Still, it's not an idea to get too spooked by: As strange as the headgear and trash-bag wrapped footwear may be on his runway, the clothes call to a far wider following than the members of a mere insider cult.

That may not be particularly obvious from the nude-panneled back-baring halters and floppy all-in-ones that came at the start. But Owens' real secret is the fact that among the twists, turns, cutouts, and asymmetries of his (mainly) black bias-cut design there's so much that's so wearable. With this collection, he filtered an almost old-school couture elegance into the mix: a jacket knotted into the torso, a high-waisted A-line coat, chic trumpet-leg pants, sleeves cut with jutting fins in the upper arm, and something that looked like a cross between a bandanna knot and a couture bow as closures.

ORLY Rick Owen?
Ugly shoes.
Boring collection.
I bet they'll be terribly overpriced as well. :yuk::judge::rolleyes:
Hype hype hype that's all I see.

Absolutely stunning, and the detail shots are to die for, thank you Mullet :crush::wub::kiss: It's a bit pared down from last season, airier without losing his signature lines, cuts, twists and drapes. It's perfection. RO shoes have always been a challenge recently but they could work in the right settings and stylings. I adore them as usual, I reckon some of them maybe spats??

Rick is one of my favorite designers but I think his shows are very distracting and poorly styled. I ''get'' it but that doesn't mean it works for me.

i have mixed feelings, it gives off an egyptian slavery vibe, a monotonous voice... i think the way he presented his collection clouded the entire intricacy of his pieces.. bells and whistles really.. those head dresses were too distracting and unflattering.. how am i suppose to actually see the clothes when those awful things are taking away from the entire collection..

then again, without them the collection wouldn't be what it is.... thus mixed feelings... i dont hate it but i'm not hysterical over it either.. im as neutral as the colours used.

^ I fee exactly the same way Dutty. The pieces are always beautiful when you see them out of context. His draped pieces are always tdf, and those knotted jackets and vests Alejandro pointed out are just gorgeous, but unfortunately I'm usually distracted, or even put off by the styling in his shows.
