i'm surprised it's getting any release. i don't want to sound mean, but getting a release date for UK is already a success for this kind of movie and actors starring in it (certain people at pattinsonlife at LJ are totally delusional, it's like "OMG, we're getting a worldwide premiere in Cannes!"). i mean, Ricci and Thurman? Thurman broke the record last year for selling the lowest amount of tickets in one weekend in UK history (read: one ticket), Rob didn't manage to break through to US market alone at all (tho he did very good worldwide) and Ricci's (sorry to say) nothing close to the status she had in the '90s, she's more famous for her private life nowadays then work - you can't sell a movie with that, and on top of that add a fact it's a tiny, tiny project with a story that's not known to majority (esp. in the US, i don't know if, other in uni's and with majors in french literature, kids actually read De Maupassant? or any familiar with it? correct me if i'm wrong, please.) all in all not a strong platform to except anything more than a DVD release IMO, so this is a great success as it is.

Though Kristin Scott Thomas is a quality actress. :)
I'm curious to see how both projects will do. WFE has Reese and Christoph which is great because both are, no matter how much of us can dislike Reese, high-profile actors. But Bel Ami doesn't sound like it would translate well in between all the summer movies. At all. More like post-Oscars time, when all the sh.t movies come out.

I wish he would chooce some supporting roles in the meantime. Not having to support the story throughout the movie this time. Just like Emma Watson is doing now.

yeah, but KST isn't boxoffice fave either, she's for tiny, indie projects.

WFE stands very good chances considering it was backed by a big studio from the start (not to mention Reese - great boxoffice choice - being in it). it really might be a good breakthrough for Rob if he does his role well.

i think he's going to do supporting roles in the near future (all the talk about his next movies has him in supporting roles, even the rumor-has-it-project ones), so i think you're getting you're wish granted.:flower:

I think WFE stands a chance of doing well. It's suppose to be opening the same weekend as Scream 4 and Source Code so it definetly won't be number one at the box office but it has Reese in it and she does have a following also the book is quite popular so hopefully the people who do like it will be interested in seeing how they portray it on the screen.
As for Bel Ami, I would imagine the people who are backing this movie know that period pieces don't really ever bring in a lot of money. I think this is the type of movie to have more of a limited release.
And Dajrekshn is correct a lot of roles that I have been hearing about regarding Rob are supporting ones, which is a good direction so hopefully he goes there. Takes the pressure of having to be responsible for the whole movie off of him.

Just another thing to add, I waited to long to edit my post. The only two countries that Bel Ami doesn't have distributors for is the US and Spain which they are working on but it does have distributors for quite a lot of countries worldwide.

Here's a pic of Rob that was taken I think yesterday with a fan. He looks really huggable in that hoodie.
