Roisin in the "How I get dressed" feature in today's UK Observer.

Scanned by me.
"In an American mall recently I was amazed to find a goth chainstore." Hot Topic, certainly. I'll bet that amazement turned to horror pretty quickly.

"It takes the aspiration away from fashion..." She's right, so much of the fun of fashion lies in the hunt--I remember wanting leggings before they were popular outside a small circle of weirdos, and part of the fun involved scouring dance stores, or buying athletic leggings from Walmart and even shrinking them in the dryer repeatedly, so they didn't have as much comfortable moveability. Now any given chainstore in the mall sells enough leggings to encircle the world twice. Who cares anymore?

Then, the Victorian shirts. Newport News and a few goth stores online were once the only places these were available--all the goths knew the dirty secret of Newport News; that they were catering to a fairly gothic aesthetic unknowingly, while attempting to carve their niche among old, eccentric ladies who only shopped from catalogs at home, I suppose. They've since become trendier, younger... worse. But back to Victorian-style clothing. Although it could also be found through a few (rather expensive) speciality stores online, most people in need scoured thrift stores, or made/modified their own clothing. It was fun. Then it was, Let's go to Target and pick up something to eat for dinner and a Victorian shirt, while we're at it. Once again... Who cares anymore?

Overpowered is among my favourite albums EVER, so I'm positively dying to hear new music from her!

She's having a baby, isn't she? Gongrats!

^I love that album too. I had a hard time finding that album over here and had to buy it used from Amoeba and that was the only one they had.

I love how much fun she has with Fashion and they way she dresses^_^

This is an older image, but I've never seen it. Does anyone have more images from this night?!
