S/S 2009 Ad Campaigns (please read post #1 before posting)

I know every model has a very short window to make it big and take up every opportunity that she can but I think it's very unwise and premature of Toni's agents to let her scoop up this many campaigns in one season, I don't think they're thinking long term. She's gonna have a huge burn out next season when designers realise it was a catastrophe using so many models in their campaigns. She can never realistically repeat this level of success. Everyone's gonna be like "remember how successful she was in SS09". It'll be even worse for Anna J.

The same thing happened to Catherine McNeil, everyone wanted her,but her agent decided to pace her career out, but she still over did it. Now she's only doing cruise/resort campaigns, which is sad because I thought she'd be the one model who could maintain the momentom. At least she has Gap, every model's Default campaign. Now imagine the hysteria around Catherine but times ten for Toni, she could disappear very quickly into oblivion soon. Let us not forget she who shall not be named *aigroeg tsorf*.

Yeah i kinda agree with you. Their agents (toni and Anna's) probaly aren't thinking long term. But then again they have to compete with celebs getting campaigns so if the can scoop all the ads up then they will do it. I think they should have set a limit on big campaigns unless all of them payed very well. It's seems premature for toni to get all of this , as for Anna I guess this is her comeback. While i'm not a fan of either, I wish every model the best with their careers. It would suck for these two to pull a georgia frost. So unless the ads pay very well I think the agents might of bit off more than they can chew. But, then again, they might not care about long term goals.

It also sucks that prada is ALL white blonds. I'm not suprised though but i thought maybe Jourdan might of been in the ad but I guess not. The gold dresses in the collection would look especially good on darker skinned models:innocent:

Im also suprised vlada is getting more ads esp. considering her dominace on the runway for all these seasons. But, she doesn't book as much edits and covers as I would hope for either. I also thought snejana would repeat maxmara.

I think it's great Chanel hasn't got anything this far, she's antm look and always tries to be fierce when she's not and that's a disaster. But Jourdan Dunn definitely deserves a campaign, I could so see her modeling the Prada collection.

I'm really curious about Versace. I guess the lack of hype and news means that models are appearing and not celebrities. And I'm guessing these won't be big models, since this kind of information usually leaks early, right?

Same goes with Chanel. It can't be someone well-known otherwise we would have heard news already.

I think she meant that the work involves too many demands for the girls

OoOOOoooh. That makes so much more sense. (I couldn't imagine Natalia V throwing a tantrum about the temperature of her Perrier. I tried.) Many apologies if I misinterpreted, jadabelle :flower:.

As for campaign pay cheques I thought it was common knowledge that the big commercial brands paid more than most if not all of the high-ends? It's no surprise -- when was the last time Prada turned a profit, after all? That's why I figured LV is such a power player it's a consistently profitable house that retains it's higher-end status. I figured that's why Asian campaigns are attractive as well because they are pretty flush (or seen to be). Everyone wants the blue chip campaigns but I don't think Coco's crying over her holdings which include fragrance/cosmetics (the only divisions of high-end houses that pay well because those products sell) and now jewellery.

No comment on Lakshmi being the only model of colour campaign casting saw fit to notice so far :censored:.

ok, i just don't get it. why is it that someone like anna maria j whom i cannot distinguish from a lot of the other blondes (and is not unique either in terms of her facial physiognomy) can score loads of campaigns and yet someone like georgina stojiljkovic who is among the most fascinating, the most uber-beautiful, the most stunning face and most definitely a one-of-a-kind face (with facial features that are instantly recognizable even from afar) that rarely comes into existence in the industry is unable to score any campaigns so far? any news on georgina so far? anyone?

i think it all boils down to high-fashion politics....this also applies to toni i guess...i mean for the case of toni, besides being everywhere on the runways this season, she was shot by steven meisel several times including for the recent cover of vogue italia...so i guess the probability of her being used for any campaign shot by meisel is high...same goes to anna maria...she was after all also recently shot by meisel for the vogue italia cover too. the same also applies to viktoriya sasonkina i guess. i really don't understand how she scored the prada campaign...she's like a blander version of caroline trentini and stam and yet maybe because of her previous working relationship (meaning meisel loves her) with meisel (being on the cover of vogue italia and working beforehand), her probability of scoring a campaign, specifically ones that are shot by meisel is there. i mean, a model has to be a muse for the photographer (especially meisel) just to be in campaigns shot by him. i feel that it's kind of unfair sometimes when photographers use the same models again and again especially models that have been shot before for vogue italia's cover and are not even that special (in terms of their facial features). i mean, i wouldn't mind lakshmi menon being the muse of tisci for the givenchy campaign for the 2nd time again because her face is instantly recognizable in the industry even from afar eventhough i wouldn't really want to see her face being used over and over again for givenchy like sasha for prada. people might get sick and i think diversification of campaigns is the key here for a model to make a lasting impression besides having a unique face.

how about jourdan dunn or arlenis....i thought they would at least score something big....a lot of the big brands have already been taken so not much is left...their faces are at least reconizable and unique (in the industry that is)....oh well....i guess by the end of the day, a lot of luck, buzz, being a muse, being loved and shot by a specific photographer (ehem...meisel) is what really counts for a model to be chosen for an ad campaign....seriously...i don't get how anna maria (or even viktoriya sasonkina, or even toni whom i like so much but doesn't think she should have score so many campaigns) scored so many campaigns...she is definitely bland looking compared to models like daria, lily cole, gemma ward, lakshmi, georgina, tanya d, iekeliene stange or even masha tyelna (whom i do not like) who all have unique faces...huh....the fashion world definitely works in mysterious ways...i mean looking back, having a fantastic runway season doesn't always necessarily translate into a solid campaign season...georgina was all over the runways last season yet she only scored philosophy by alberta ferretti and i was already hoping that she would score big this season...

i was definitely hoping for georgina to score lanvin, dior and dolce and gabbana (because of the dark widow look)...she would've been perfect for all of them. has the cast for versace been announced? i hope in a surprising twist both tanya dziahileva and georgina nab the versace campaign...they would definitely be perfect for it, the opposites of each other. i guess i can still hope for georgina to nab something since not everything has been taken yet.

Anna and Toni have very 'safe' faces, so it doesn't surprise me that in this current time many designers are choosing to cast them. Of course there are edgier girls scoring campaigns as well, such as the Balenciaga cast, but Anna and Toni are obviously the two dominating this season.

I thought I'd put them together after I went searching for them. Except for Toni, Kathrin and Sigrid I've never seen any of them before (well, I guess I have but didn't notice them). They really all look alike. It's depressing.

Then I think it's time you learn the names and faces that go along with them...I expect this is not the last we'll see of any of them :)

And seeing them all together, I have great confidence it's gonna be a beautiful campaign!

Meisel always stuffs his darlings du jour into a bunch of campaigns, even though half of the time they don't fit the label's aesthetic whatsoever. And none of his recent obsessions can measure up to those of his glory days. His work is getting boring and so is his taste in models...

The only major casts I'm really pleased with are Givenchy, Mulberry, and Lanvin. And unlike most people here, I think Dolce & Gabbana will turn out much better than usual with that weird combination.

WOW way to streetched  please when posting pictures think of this, its annoying. :p

I truly expected Jourdan to get few campaigns,i just dont why she didnt!

^^It's not stretched for me. I think it depends on which browser you're using :flower:

For me the prada ad will be a bit insulting. Their are great models of color and ALL 8 of them have to have to be white. And they look alike.

the girls of prada are definitely pretty and high-fashion...it's just that they don't have any standout features such as daria or georgina or iekeliene...oh well, i'm sure the results will be amazing in the end!

i hope liu wen will also nab something major...i know she's already gotten gap and ck one but i was expecting her to leave a trail of blaze and be the next big asian girl after ai and du juan after walking down so many big names this season...

You would think that in this economic climate, designers would want an appealing and diverse cast for their campaigns to cater to and attract the widest audience....by hiring these girls that are all weird, I think it will turn off people glancing through a magazine. They'll see Amanda Laine, Anya Kazakova, Diana F, Viktoriya S, etc. and they'll roll their eyes and think "oh those fashion people..."

Agree! I thought the fashion houses would hire oriental-looking models in campaigns to appeal to the Asian market, especially the Chinese since they are the least affected by the recession.

In my eyes the Prada girls look alike just as much as Gemma, Sasha, Stam, Natasha and Lily D. The difference is that they simply aren't familiar to us yet! I'm sure Gemma, Stam etc were interchangeable back in their 'polaroid/nobody phase' as well. It takes time (editorials, covers and campaigns) to see the individual in each new model. :)

^Exactly. Good point :)

Agree! I thought the fashion houses would hire oriental-looking models in campaigns to appeal to the Asian market, especially the Chinese since they are the least affected by the recession.

But Asian consumers often prefer to see Caucasian models, so it is an ironic dilemma if there is one
