Saint Laurent F/W 13.14 Paris

The last time a designer did a collection inspired by grunge (Marc Jacobs for Perry Ellis), he got FIRED over it. (and it was on the grunge's heyday).

Apparently "Kinderwh*res" are back!!!

PS OMG! I *AM* old.

i'm pretty sure i already explained this on a previous discussion on the subject but anyways here it goes again: it's a hedi trademark to take iconic "working class" items such as converse sneakers or indeed doc martens and revisit them in a streamlined luxury version. it's the ultimate understated sophistication, the exact opposite of buying something because the logo is on it...

oh, i thought that was marc's signature. don't tell me someone's finally stolen something from him

i love hedi slimane, and i would LOVE all the collections he has put out for saint laurent so far (both men's and women's)...if it was for another label. this is not YSL. i did like the collection, but i can't picture many of YSL's clients shelving out thousands of dollars for flannel shirts and baby doll dresses.

^But that's the thing, Marc10, YSL was always about WOMEN, regardless of who's designing. All we're seeing are clothes for young girls, and ugly ones at that.

Well that's not entirely true. Yves intention when he started Rive Gauche in late 60's was to capture a younger parisian audience who were not interested or couldn't afford Haute Couture. Not to mention his muse from the time Talitha Pol-Getty, Betty Catroux... original "cool girls". Ultimately, the brand's image shaped into the chic and sophisticated woman that we know, but I don't that necessary rules out everyone under 30. YSL always held a fresher image in comparison to Chanel and Dior.

My point here is that I don't think designers should target their collections towards younger people or older people. The collections should have clothes that work for both of them in the best and most democratic way possible.

I think buyers are probably mortified to put this into retailers, but feel like they have no choice due to the circumstances of popularity, and of course a relative legacy behind YSL...in my opinion the buyers are probably doing the best to cleanse it on the clothing racks, luckily they have nothing to fear with footwear and bags. But still, what is so innovative about this collection? I would think in today's generation consumers are more smart about their investments, if they wanted commercial pieces they wouldn't pay the price for this, because nothing about it screams exclusive.

i'm sure there are lots of pieces available to buyers that weren't on the runway. i believe dries puts most of what he's got in the show, but that's atypical. if i were a buyer, though, this certainly wouldn't have me mentally increasing my budget ... :ninja:

When I looked at the detail photo, I have to say there are great pieces in this collection. I find this collection is overwhelmed I believe Hedi has his own point of view and I trust his gut. This was unexpected result, hopefully he'd listen and learn.

i wonder is Mr Slimane is blackmailing to PPR or Mr Berge with a dirty dirty secret, 'cause he can't have that much power. Not even sales can justify this disaster, it's stupid.

btw, i had hope with his first collection, love it. But he really needs to get fired and create his own brand.

This is just wrong. I'm just sad that these clothes are not even well made. It looks super cheap, tacky and everything opposites the women Pilati embodies.

This must be a joke......

The most hideous, disgusting excuse for a show I have ever witnessed. This is manufactured "punk"/ Hole / Courtney Love. What this has to do with YSL I will never, ever know. Vile in it's entirety. And people say NYFW has issues...

So Hedi Slimane interned at DSquared2 last year.

That would explain where he picked up this look

I don't like this collection and I don't like Slimane's pretentious ways, but I have to admit, the man is a genius, with this awful collection he's making everyone talk about him, the buzz around this man and what he's doing with SLP is unbelievable.

If there's a silver lining in all of this, it's that it'll separate the real fashion critics from the rest. No matter how many euphemisms you can muster to circumvent the obvious, you simply can't heap praise on this. But boy do those future front row wanna-sits try

He is far from being a genius more so a meglomaniac , the fact is for a storied house like YSL, he produced dollar bin clothing, which is not only an insult to the house but to the intelligence of people.

Poor Yves. He sure didn't work his whole life to get his brand outraged this way. Slimane go to LA! I hope it'll be a flop as far as sales go. I have nothing against Heidi but I hate what he is doing to YSL now

I can see a youtube take of this show with "Thrift shop" on the sound track.

It's funny to see that the reviewers are talking about how only the young will get this....thus ruling everyone out as old if they don't like this. Well, then, they should probably know that the average tFS user is pretty young....and they still don't like it. Because it's just absolutely sub par. It doesn't even have a teen spirit.

No elegance. No shape. No attitude. No spirit.

Just boring and lazy. What an absolute irony that this is supposed to channel the most gifted and passionate designer of all times. To get away with that for millions upon millions of dollars, why, that must be the wet dream of poseurs and con artists everywhere.

Somewhere a pre-teen thanks Hedi for this collection...

^^Let's overreact here tho, Pilati's stuff were even worse than Tom Ford's.

Worse or not (according to you at least) both Ford's and Pilati's clothes looked like they belonged in a YSL boutique, not in a bin in the 2 for 3 section of Primark.
