Saint Laurent Paris F/W 14.15 Paris

that nymag review is one of the most depressing things I've read in a while... push and pull throughout the text, he's rolling his eyes like everyone else and doesn't want to hide it but oh what a drag to gamble next season's seat if you push too much. Ethics or paying the bills or not missing a show, the predicament. And just like that we get to the heart of Hedi's charm... suck it all dry not just through the obvious (**** collections) but also by strengthening that dumb and dull side of fashion that not long ago seemed to be disappearing..

Hedi has his style, there are good things in this collection, but actually I found it a little bit boring and predictable. I don't want him to get out of character, but the style and the beauty look feel like déjà vu to me.

After reading all the rave reviews all over the internet, I came here because I knew you all would be the voices of reason! I don't think it's bad -- I do like the styling and the boots are so good. But Robin Givhan got it right: these all just look like altered vintage pieces, and Anthro, Urban and Free People have been doing that for years.

It just seems like he rehashed a bunch of looks from past seasons -- I see both his FW13 and SS13 in here. He has only been a SL for 4 collections, too soon for repeats!

Believe it or not, but this makes me miss L.A., it was a pretty good collection, you can see this collection fly between LA and NYC easily. But Paris? Hmm...

I have come to the conclusion that with Raf Simons and Hedi Slimane, they are really one-note designers, they can only cut and construct the clothes ONE way, so season after season, they send down almost identical collections, though Simons' range is wider. Strange that the SLP people are not able to tell Heidi to send out something different, surely they can tell the designs are stuck in a rut. One indulgent LA rock chick collection is fine, but FOUR seasons of the same? What about volume? big collars? trousers? prints? Just ANYTHING different or new would do!

After looking at this collection over and over again, it is hard to deny that there are some great individual pieces in here. That being said, it is generally, still a mess. It started off well but went downhill as the show went by. Again, little or no "design" has taken place. It's like he went into a vintage store, bought as many pieces as possible and styled them together. It's almost impossible to differentiate between his collections now. The new Saint Laurent girl looks weak and immature, she certainly doesn't embody the idea of empowerment Saint Laurent built his brand on. And any idea that this is rebellious is bollocks IMO as being rebellious today should not being being dated by over 10 years.

Saint Laurent for adolescent.

But not even, though, because adolescents have moved past this look by now. It might have been "in" with the young crowd a couple of seasons ago, but the crest of the, for instance, fuzzy leopard print coat trend has definitely already passed. The only people wearing these clothes, at least as styled, are the try-hard group who doesn't get that this phase is already behind us.

...The only people wearing these clothes, at least as styled, are the try-hard group who doesn't get that this phase is already behind us.

Or people who actually like the look, regardless of how it's regarded by self-styled fashion cognoscenti. ;)

If style is a personal expression, does it matter what people on the internet (or in print) say about it?

It's never as clear cut as either dress for yourself or dress to impress others, but I'd rather have a "dated" look that I'm comfortable with than chase trends just because they get positive reviews or are regarded as "new". :flower:

it's very 1960's marianne faithfull but way too literal for my liking.

that's very true...
the styling is a huge part of the problem, frankly...

who is styling the shows anyway?
anyone know?
