Saint Laurent - The All-Things Saint Laurent Thread

Indeed, the Saint Laurent woman is a fantasy, and the clothes in the latest collections speak only to a certain demographic - which limits the possible clientele.
it's not even bourgeoise women who don't work, so they can't fray the nylons, it's like... women who are in a coma and physically can't move  to prevent any damage

In an era of quiet luxury on one end and streetwear on the other, YSL has somewhat of a monopoly of that glossy, cinematic image, so I don't think they should move too far from that look. What they really need is to take a more grounded approach to the actual design, take a page out of Pilati's book and start thinking about what his YSL woman could wear before 5pm.

Let's take the latest collection as an example. The suits at the beginning of the collection could've been diversified by adding slimmer cuts, switching the pants for shorts and skirts, adding waistcoats. The "gypsy" looks in the middle could've been styled with cargo shorts instead to those sweeping skirts. The colourful looks at the end could've featured one-piece dresses, shorts, pants, a different jacket shape, etc.

Those sweeping dresses was the best part of the show I love them.

Come on now lady junon he has his limits design wise 😂😂😂. Remember those Tom Ford YSL collections so many fabulous options.

I am not surprised that selling in drop. The bag are very average and the majority of customers are young women, which not enough money to buy different brand. The price RTW is to high and they lack a collection of classics to wear at slightly lower prices so that they would think about buying a dress for a special occasion. In reality, the client goes to work and it is often an office job, so she only buys a handbag...

YAWN

I do not think he read the book.... noone reads it....

I read it and can only recommend it, if you have a couple of months with not much going on in your life.

There is also an outstanding film by Raoul Ruiz (with Catherine Deneuve, Emmanuelle Béart, J. Malkovich, Pascal Grégory...) based on the book.

I met a group of university professors for french literature.... they all said, that noone reads this book.... even at university they only read parts of the book. But I do not know :-)))))

Of course people read it! 🥳
Yves himself was a fan of the book.
At the end of his life he was very reclusive and he spent a lot of time re-reading Proust and watching Bresson movies.

Yves was a Proust fanboy, the decor at Chateau Gabriel (his manor house in Deauville) was directly inspired by the novel's period and location, and bedrooms were named after characters. Pierre sourced original editions for Yves (antique books were Pierre's first job with Richard Anacréon and remain his passion for life).
But it's a very long and contemplative novel and people, some scholars, may have read it entirely but tbh volume 4-5-6 aren't that interesting, and we need the final volume 7 (sorry I don't know the titles in English) to fully understand the lessons of the narrator. So yes, many have just read 1 or 2 volumes and unless you're a dedicated Proustian, few have actually read the full novel.
La Recherche is still way shorter than The Human Comedy or the Rougon-Macquards, but I would not start with Proust.

im usually not a conspiracy theorist, but I need to know what human sacrifice or Faustian bargain did this addison girl make to get all these famous and influential people suddenly start pretending as though she has "it"
