What's the point of this?

so you dislike her looks because she has "pigeon toes" and bad sense of fashion?!

i guess i don't weigh that as important as the kinds of movies she makes and if she's a good actress, or what kind of attitude she projects in her interviews.

but i do concede some of her poses are a bit awkward but being only a year younger and guilty of the same, i'm not really going to penalize her for that.

and I've seen her in Horse Whisperer and think she's blossomed since then. Don't really see how she was prettier back then, but JMO.

Maybe not HORSE WHISPERER days, but a few years after. I liked her during this phase:

No, she just looks AWKWARD to me sometimes. Sometimes I think she can look really pretty, but sometimes there's just the way she's dressed, wearing makeup, her hair, but she just tends to do things in very unflattering ways.

I'm really just kind of on the fence about her most of the time - it's not like I HATE her, she just doesn't appeal to me as other people (such like, Natalie Portman) do. Scarlett's roles ...she hasn't necessarily impressed me full out, per se, so that's also another reason why I'm not her biggest fan. I wasn't that big of a fan of Lost in Translation, although she was cute in that; I didn't like Girl with a Pearl Earring...

For me, BECAUSE she seems so uncomfortable, that really undermines her ability to appear radiant.

I like her better in editorials than in candids.

Perhaps she's not exactly the most photogenic and comfortable in candids, but that doesn't translate to me when she's on screen, and that is what primarily matters to me.

"Lost in Translation" was nominated for Golden Globes & Oscar, perhaps you weren't impressed with it but I personally thought it was a really good film. And Girl With a Pearl Earring got solid reviews as well. And really, Natalie Portman isn't exempt from making less than stellar movies. Anywhere but Here & particularly Where the Heart Is were not exactly terrific films.

Natalie Portman is exquisite to look at but a terrible actress, IMO. I'm surprised that this has gone unnoticed. :innocent:
Scarlett, however, seems to have depth. She's got an arrogance about her that makes her annoying to some women, but honestly, I think she's used to having people be jealous of her.:ninja:

She looks absolutely stunning, as usual. I think I prefer her as a brunette.

:: shrugs :: It's all just a difference of opinion. I just don't find her to be that appealing all the time. It's all so very subjective.

Actually, the Girl with a Pearl Earring reviews I read were quite negative, though, but there was, of course, a lot of critical nods for Lost in Translation. Agreed about Natalie Portman - she isn't always stellar, but no one ever really is. It all just boils down to personal preference.

I think that depends - Natalie Portman has had some great films (Star Wars DEFINITELY NOT INCLUDED, where EVERYONE, even great actors, are terrible...) like the Professional, Closer, Garden State, etc...She can be on when she's on, and off when she's off. She's stunning to LOOK at, in my opinion, and quite intelligent. From what DressageChick said on the Natalie Portman thread, apparently she's quite down to earth as well. :)

Why do you hate her purple?
I can't put my finger on it exactly, there's just something about her that irks me... She seems sort of fake, like she's trying too hard. I find her lips too big and her gowns too over-the-top and I don't know exactly. I mean, I've never met her, so it's not a personal thing, but still.

Hey,
Not to be at all controversial (or contrary), but I honestly thought that Garden State and Closer were horrendously overrated pieces of doodoo. NP was so stiff in Garden State I thought she was going to choke every time she faked a smile. My friend worked on a fashion shoot with a model who'd gone to school with her, who said she was a totally uptight little princess. I suppose it just depends who you talk to. The professional was awesome, but it was also her first big movie, and before she was over-aware of her beauty, which i find really seems to hold her back from coming across as at all real. Just an opinion, of course.
*end tangent*

It's ok. :) It's all about opinions, anyway, and that's what they are, subjective viewpoints on things based on personal preferences.
I loved her in Closer, though, and I love that film in general.

Ironically, some would say that about Scarlett as well (about how they're now overly aware of their looks.) :)

i like scarlett as an actress. i think you become connected to some actrsess in roles and others don't. lost in traslation is one of my favorite movies (i watched it today while loafing on the couch:doh: ) and i just love her role, i connect with it. i've tried to think of other actress3es who could have played that role, but can't think of any (except for julia robets, i could imagine her in it for some reason).

she ushally looks good in pictures, i like her mouth and beauty mark, it's quirky.
