Sex and the City Movie *Update* The Movie Sequel in the Works

it's funny how Kim Catrall is the oldest and looks so much better than all of all of them, especially SJP.

I never got the appeal of the show and I certainly never bought the hype of SJP being a fashionista. If anything the pics from the movie just reinforce how ridiculous the outfits are that they make those women wear and that SJP is aging very badly.

I totally disagree. I think many of these outfits would look ridiculous on most of us but somehow SJP and the others can make them work. Pat Field is absolutely fab for mixing up and putting togethere these over the top crazy gorgeous outfits. Just my 2 cents

I agree! Many of Carrie's outfits from SATC are so similar to Kate Moss's greatest hits, but Pat styled them years before Ms. Moss wore hers. I'm not trying to suggest that Kate copied Pat, but it's obvious that Pat is uber-talented. She has a real knack for merging the classic and the quirky. If you look at all the outfits from the old series, they all still look modern today.

In the paparazzi video too...all the fans on the street were screaming for her! LOL I definitely believe all those stories about jealousy toward Kim....

I completely agree. She is a genius and really ahead of the trends.

I have a male friend who loves SATC and thinks that it provides an accurate portrait of women's private lives. I watched some episodes with him one night and I was like, "honey, no." It was a funny show, granted, but the real-life aspiring are a horror to deal with.

The photos of the costumes posted here remind me of when I worked for Bliss Spa, very briefly, when it opened in San Francisco in 2005. All these wannabe SATC corporate New Yorker Bliss women showed up emulating a f*cking TV show. I'm not teetering in heels and dressing like a doily, making grand flourishes and loping about as if something really grand was happening when there isn't: We're opening a spa! Drama! Drama! Drama! They were creepy-***ed, sorry. (They canned me, too.;))

I'm sure the movie will be great, but I'm not wearing that awful over-accessoried, shopping-centric wardrobe, shagging everything that moves, and creating unnecessary bother and drama in my life...so that I can appear interesting to/competitive with other women. I laugh at that sh*t in real life harder than I do when I see it on the screen.

I suppose there's a chance that for some art imitates life, but I get the definite vibe this show was so big, some women did frame their behavior on it. To each their own, I suppose. I'll watch the movie and enjoy it.

Why do all of Samantha's outfits in the movie look like they came from the Golden Girls or Dynasty wardrobe closet?

haha so do I..!! While Carrie is the protagonist, the actual character that has given me most of the laughs is Samantha! Without her, the show would definitely lack comedy! She has so many memorable lines..one of my faves being "honey, what's the point of going to the suburbs if you're not going to f*** a gardner?" (I apologise for the language hehe)

You know, if it was more true to life, it would just be depressing. Most single women's life in their 30s are not that exciting.

I always thought of SATC as a caricature of women's real lives. Some of like to be in monogamous relationships, some like to sleep around, sometimes we like to get dressed up, we all have flaws, some of us like to gossip with our girlfriends, sometimes we like to shop. And so on and so forth (that list could go on forever).

However I never thought it was a realistic portrayal of women even though it did bring up some serious issues. Breast cancer, inability to conceive, attitudes towards women who sleep around etc.

So, while it wasn't spot on and true to life, it did have some groundings in real life.

I recall seeing her in some outfits like that on the show.
Lots of bright pants/skirts suits with big shoulder pads.

yeah a lot of it made no sense, even fashion wise. Like, remember when Samantha wanted a red Birkin and couldn't get it without using Lucy Liu's name? Well, it's always implied that Samantha is pretty wealthy and Carrie is the least wealthy. Well, in season 5 Carrie had a CROCODILE (!) Birkin and it's not a big deal.

^ I think the whole show went really down hill at the end...
I hope the movie isn't further into that decline.

i do agree that the clothing was better when pat was rummaging through thrift shops, but then again even the designer stuff they used was not too typical.

and for those who want a TV show to be more like real life, isn't that besides the point? do you think all fiction is somehow less "true" than non-fiction?
