i have been wondering the same thing, he kind of lost the touch, like the breaking up with carey left him a bit damaged...

it's breaking up with Carey. he was in WS2 suit era which suited him (pun intended ) and there was Carey next to him, so he was upped in his whole appearance, IMO (and i, for the first time, found him actually good looking. now that's a haze and back to "i don't get it".)
